The Official Orange Bowl Thread

So the BCS picked one 1-loss team that finished 2nd in their conference over another. Big deal. All this really comes down to a big payday for the school that gets in, it doesn't mean anything more. Neither of these teams is playing for the championship.

No this comes down to rewarding a coach for whining like a little bitch. This is a fucking joke. THERE'S NO REASON WHY TEXAS SHOULD'VE JUMPED. It makes college football look like the fucking joke it's become since 1997.

Funniest thing about the BCS whining: somehow college football has become a "joke" under the BCS system, despite far less split champions than under the old system. Hell, if we went back to the traditional style, Cal wouldn't even have a sniff at a Big 4 bowl, and we would have to see USC-Michigan, Oklahoma-Piitsburgh, and Auburn-Virginia Tech.

Yeah real good job the BCS has done. It was made to prevent split National Champs and they can't even say that it's been able to do at least that.

It's happened ONCE, under a strange set of circumstances. On the other hand, it's matched up several undefeated teams that would have never played each other under the old system, and would have prevented what happened in 1997 and 1994.

People seriously need to wash the sand out of their vaginas when it comes to the BCS.

It was made to prevent a split national title and it failed to do so. It fails almost every year to pick the right teams for the National championship.

Yeah but it produced the correct National Title game this year at least. It just fucked over Cal. Which is crap I agree.

Cal's gonna fuck Texas A&M up something horrible in the Holiday Bowl.

No, it didn't produce the right game this year. It can't produce the right game this year. It's producing a team that will have been liked more by voters in the preseason. There could still be three undefeated teams floating around by the end.

Years that can be argued:

2003 (Oklahoma)

2001 (Nebraska)

Very marginal argument possible:

2000 (Florida State)

Top 2 teams were matched up:

2004

2002

1999

1998

"almost every year" my ass.

The voters had OU and USC 1 and 2. The Computers matched up the same teams.

How did it not produce the right match!? What was the right match!?

It's hard to say that it produced the correct national title game this year. It's really splitting hairs to distinguish between any of the top 3 teams, so while you get a great national title game, it's going to be hard to say Auburn is any less impressive than those teams if they take care of Virginia Tech. That problem would have existed under the old system, too, in a different fashion.

And Texas A&M won't be feeling Cal's wrath; it's more than likely going to be Texas Tech. A&M to the Cotton, TT or Oklahoma State to the Holiday, and the other to the Alamo.

Three-way game on a triangular field.

Of course, all the Pac-10 homers will claim that non-conference champion Cal should be there with the other three, despite arguing loudly against non-conference champion Oklahoma last year.

Dama, I can see the shit-fit forming already, so chill beforehand. No one's taking anything away from your Sooners, but the system won't be selecting a clear national champion if Auburn beats Virginia Tech. The system will *say* it has, but come on. 13-0 Auburn will probably be sitting there at #2 when all's said and done, right behind 13-0 Oklahoma or USC.

I'm positive that Auburn will be ranked #2 at the end if they win.

The difference between the Cal situation and the last yr Oklahoma situation is that Cal's one loss was by 6 in a game played on the road against the number 1 team in the nation and Cal still totally outplayed USC. Oklahoma got blasted on a neutral field by a lower ranked team. Cal deserves to go over Texas, they are a better team and their only real close wins were against Oregon, at a tough place to play, and against a pretty decent Southern Miss team on the road late in the year in a makeup game.

You know people say they won't complain about it if they had the +1 system but I knew there would be controversy over #4.

If we had the +1 system then it'd be

OU vs. Auburn

And

USC vs. TEXAS.

People would be going nuts that Cal wasn't involved in this.

There will always be controversy.

Anyways back to the Orange Bowl!!!!!

Keep switching your stance, Dama.

Well everyone took the polls as gospel last year!

People said "Well USC and LSU are ranked 1 and 2 they should play!"

This year OU and USC are ranked 1 and 2.

So going by the bitching from last year it produced the right game.

No, it came down to OU not winning their conference title while USC and LSU had. It was a completely different situation from this year where there's 3 undefeated teams and there's no way with this current system to have a real National Champion when there could be 3 undefeated teams floating around at the end.

Oklahoma got GANG-RAPED by lowly K-State in their conference game. Wait, Oklahoma didn't even win their conference, and yet were placed in the National Title game? GETTHEFUCKOUTOFHERE!

This year OU and USC are ranked 1 and 2.

So going by the bitching from last year it produced the right game.

When all of the teams are undefeated, there's no correct way to produce the "right match-up" without using the bullshit preseason polls from October to aid their argument.

That completely ignores that almost everyone was against OU because they weren't even conference champions.

Then what do you guys want to be done!?

I have a feeling that if OU was the one being left out you guys would be going

"Oh well get over it. The computers got it right."

Yeah OU got beat up last year! And were ranked 3 in the polls and 1 in the BCS. Everyone said "Well the polls say that LSU and USC should play." Everyone said the pollsters were right and the computers were crappy.

Well this year everything's crappy apparently!

Oh and KSU wasn't really lowly. They were ranked 12 and only lost 3 games b/c of there QB was injured! Where's Slayer to defend his boys?

If Oklahoma was left out this year, you'd have an aneurysm and crash the board.

Not only that but they played a close game against a good Ohio State team.

Yeah but it seems that everyone that is crying injustice right now would be saying "Oh well it got it right!"

There is a double standard going on here.
