RAW does 3.9

It's still a lot better than those 3.1 and 3.3's RAW was doing over the last few months. Next week I can see doing the same, thanks to ANOTHER Cliffhanger with Eric Bischoffs decision.

i wouldnt be suprised if the rating is a little lower next week as some people have got to be tired of the cliffhanger bullshit and dont really give a shit anymore about what happens with it

It will do well next week since they used this week to build that show, but will probably die down for a while after that. I expected a 4.0 given the title situation, which may spell bad for the WWE if the fans believe who holds the belt doesn't matter (if you want to extend that, the fans may believe that HHH will get it back no matter what, as has been the case often).

What do you mean cliffhanger bullshit? Every episode of RAW should make you want to see the next.

RAW should be like an action serial: Plotlines should get deeper and heroes should be put in the worst possible situations until the payoffs, in which they triumph.

The thing is...

The WWE has to remember to do the pay-off, and it has to be good. There has to be a resolution. They tend to be more focused on building to nothing, so everything is open when its supposed to be closed.

Yes, and I see this as their main problem.

There are only three ways to really do good booking: Epic, Episodic, and Crash. The first two rely heavily on build up and pay off, the third just keeps "paying off" over and over again. If they don't want Crash TV they have to start having good guys win big matches.

And HHH being in the mix doesn't help matters since the title is on a rotating basis with him. (Uh oh, 2 negative HHH references in 1 thread, better watch out....)

I wish Jericho could have been in the mix more. Granted, I didn't catch Raw last night, but it didn't sound like he was even contending for the title. They should have had him pin HHH so he could get involved in the mess (really, it should have been a singles match and Hunter could get pinned clean and not lose the belt).

Jericho is very happy in his role as the main storyline pusher. He is virtually guaranteed his own segment every week, and gets involved somehow in just about all of the main storylines.

Those 'extra' commercials they do during dead time can be better spent with a little more on-air fan interaction.

Also, WWE should do more adapting of great literature and movies, like HHH quoting The Princess Bride when he said, "Get used to disappointment".

What was 3/22/04 and 3/29/04? I'm guessing they had something to do with The Rock.

Draft lottery and Shelton beating Triple H, I think.

That's what you call "X-Files" plotting.

What do you mean cliffhanger bullshit? Every episode of RAW should make you want to see the next.

While every episode of Raw should leave you wanting to see the next one, there are ways of doing that without having to constantly go to the cliffhanger route. Do that often enough, and people get tired of being left hanging, and tune out.

I think constantly creating new questions in storylines is the right way to book. I fail to see how that's a problem.

I'm not talking about not creating questions that people will want to see answered, I'm talking about the cliffhanger-type endings like with the World Title situation from last week. There is a difference between leaving people wanting to see the consequence to an action, like a turn, than leaving them waiting to see the conclusing of an action, like a disputed ending to a World title match. Too many endings of, "Oh no, what happens next ?", and it becomes annoying. You don't need to constantly go to a typical cliffhanger to make people want to tune in again next week.

I wonder how soap operas go for years and years then without losing viewers.

Fat women with no jobs.

...and subliminal messages, too. :P

Let's not forget the main percentage: Old, retired people who can longer have sex and watch for the hot steamy action between Random Idiot Blonde #47 and Talentless Guy With Shrunken Genitals #879393347397

Is there a ratings breakdown over the 2 hours? Seeing as they made it clear at the start of the show that there would be no title resolution until next week, I think it is a good sign if the rating held up for the whole show after Vince made that announcement. I would expect the same sort of rating (if not higher) next week as well.

So that's who Kevin Dunn is trying to target with his stupid angles...
