TNA Notes from PWInsider

Recommended Posts

Dustin Runnels (Dustin Rhodes aka Goldust) is backstage at the TNA taping in Orlando, Florida and will debut tonight. With Dusty Rhodes' ascension to power, I don't think anyone will be surprised to read this.

TNA has a great recap video on their website with clips from the Turning Point PPV, which you can check out by clicking here. If you have the chance, I would advise ordering the replay as the Cage Match itself is worth the price of the show with Sonjay Dutt & Hector Garza & Sonny Siaki vs. Michael Shane & Kid Kash & Kazarian being excellent as well. There are also several good matches with Raven vs. Diamond Dallas Page and Monty Brown vs. Abyss as well.

The plan at one point was for Chris Sabin to win the X-Division championship at Turning Point, but TNA changed gears in order to build to Sabin vs. Petey Williams vs. AJ Styles in an Ultimate X match at New Year's Resolution.

Also planned for the next PPV is Jeff Jarrett defending the NWA championship against Randy Savage.

TNA's February PPV date is 2/13/05.

Pat Kenney wasn't booked for TV this week, as he's not backstage. Yeah, that makes sense to me too.

TNA sent out a press release announcing that their NWATNA.com website was down due to "technical difficulties."

Dusty Rhodes' autobiography is being ghostwritten by Howard Brody.

I figured when I saw that Sabin lost at TP that they were going to put him over in a rematch, I'm already picking him to win UX in an excellent match. We all know how we feel about Jarrett/Savage and as for Dustin's re-debuting, if they come up with something for him, I'm all for it as Goldust became a fav of mine when teaming with Booker in WWE, but if he's just going to be Cowboy Dustin, then boo.

AJ Styles is being depushed again? I understood the reasoning behind the Best Damned Sports Show booking where he got jobbed out to Abyss, but depushed to X-Division again?

Flying Elvis' are much better bookers than Hall and Dusty.

AJ asked to go to the X-division months ago, so technically it is not a de-push. I'm thinking the UX could be the best match in company history. Sabin will win, but all 3 guys will be boosted by the effort. Petey will go back to feuding with Sabin for the X-belt, while AJ will move back into the Main Event.

Here's more notes:

Randy Savage met with Dusty Rhodes and Jerry Jarrett for about 15 minutes yesterday afternoon before the decision was made to send him home and go another direction for the Final Resolution PPV event. As PWInsider.com broke last night, Savage requested that he win the NWA championship at the PPV and TNA wasn't having any of that. Given his erratic behavior (dating back to the WWA PPV in Las Vegas), I don't blame TNA one bit for taking that stance.

For those who asked, Konnan's injury is completely a storyline situation as he's working in Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Matches taped for this Friday's Impact! include:

*AJ Styles vs. Hector Garza

*Christopher Daniels vs. Mikey Batts

*Michael Shane & Kazarian vs. America's Most Wanted

*Monty Brown vs. Glen Gilberti

*Also appearing are Raven, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Dusty Rhodes, NWA champion Jeff Jarrett, Diamond Dallas Page, Erik Watts, Team Canada, Shane Douglas and more.

Primetime will be appearing on Between the Ropes radio tonight in Florida. For more information, visit www.betweentheropes.com.

You can expect a big push for Hector Garza, which already started last night.

For those who asked, you can check out TNA's new Liquid Blue shirts here at this link.

There was talk going around last night that Pat Kenney may end up back as Simon Diamond under the new booking regime. There's a step in the right direction.

TNA's Street Team is organizing to hand out flyers at the WWE Smackdown event on 1/14/05 in Nashville. For details, click here.

For those of you who want to check out TNA's Xplosion show online, Kansas' http://kctu.com/128tv2002.htm carries their signal on the web. Xplosion can be found at 3 AM Eastern late Fridays/early Saturdays; 3 AM Eastern late Saturdays/early Sundays; Midnight late Sundays/early Mondays. You'll need a Windows Media Player to watch the show.

If anyone would like to file Xplosion reports for the site, please feel free to email me.

Kenney going back to Simon Diamond is the greatest thing I've heard in a while. The move away from the gimmick was one of the biggest failures of the year for TNA, and Diamond was one of the few wrestler's with a recognizable personality for TNA. They should definitely let him cut some more Simon Has a Problem promos though. I always used to mark out for those.

THANK YOU GOD! For some reason, I was a mark for Simon Diamond... then right before my eyes, he changed to Pat Kenney... and I was PISSED.
