Marvin Harrison signs $67M extension

So Satanico and I are the only ones who understand that a "seven-year" contract in the NFL is really just for two or three? THe press loves reporting these, and let's face it, 7 years and $67m are impressive numbers. But NFL contracts are not guaranteed. Harrison is already 32. He'll play 3, maybe 4, more years, and that'll be it. The Colts will pay him only for those years, with their salary cap creativity built in. It's a great deal for both sides.

You're still talking about a 32-year old receiver who is making close to 10 million a year. What makes me angrier than all this, is this now raises the "market value" for receivers who personally think they're better than he is. Which is going to make re-signing guys like T.O., Moss, or Javon Walker even harder in the future. Huge contracts like that are not good for pro football, or any other sport for that matter. Thankfully, at least the NFL has a salary cap...

I'll say Marvin has had one good thing going for him in that he hasn't had a major injury, unless I'm mistaken.. So he definitely at least has a chance to continue to play at a high level for a while.
