Misawa/Kawada 6/3/94 vs Flair/Steamboat COTC6

Recommended Posts

I keep hearing the praise about the matches between Kawada and Misawa; in particular, 6/3/94. I have never seen this match and have never been a puro-head. On a number of boards I have seen this match being praised, as one of, if not, the greatest match of all-time. Now, how does this compare to the Flair-Steamboat match, particularly, the 2/3 falls COTC match at the Superdome? Out of the Flair-Steamboat trilogy I always thought this match was the best one. I want to order some stuff on the Kawada-Misawa series but I wanted to know how 6/3/94 stacks up against COTC 6. Is it alot better? better by a slim margin? Even? Worse, or alot worse?

I'll say Misawa/Kawada is better, but both matches are terrific. you need to watch quite a bit of AJPW to get all the little storylines in the match, and the AJPW (All Japan Pro Wrestling, BTW) type of psych, which will appear weird at first. The previous Misawa/Kawada encounters are a good place to start, as well as some Jumbo/Misawa matches. Puro-heads will be able to give you some specific good ones of the top of their heads.

Of course the Flair/Steamboat matches all build off each other as well, and it's a smaller body of work, so it's an easier match to get into. Both matches are really action-packed, have great heart and psych exihibited in their characters, and it seems not a moment is wasted in either one.

Misawa/Kawada. Quite easily. I say that not to downplay Flair/Steamboat at all, as it's probably my favorite or second favorite US match of all time. But Misawa and Kawada were working on a totally different level in terms of rich storytelling, moveset and character depth.

I've seen the Kawada/Misawa matches from the later 90's, but I could never for the life of me find the '94 match through any of my P2P channels

Does goldenboy tapes sell 6/3/94 in full, instead of a clipped version? Also, do they sell the previous matches between Misawa and Kawada? I'd like to see there rivalry and previous matches before 6/3/94 to get the full jist of the rivalry.

I had the same problem after my computer crashed and I lost everything, thankfully RHTITE hooked me up on his server, along with several other great matches. Check out that "Places To Download Matches" thread to get the link.

There is a best of Mitsuharu Misawa on Golden Boy that does have the match in full. I know, because that's where I got my copy of it. Although, I do not know if they still sell it because I got it sometime ago. Also, I'm sure there are a ton of other places to get it in full.

For me the 6/3/94 Misawa/Kawada isn't just better than Flair/Steamboat.........it's the greatest match of all time, IMO. Also, not to take anything away from Flair/Steamboat as it's also a classic encounter.

Is there a site to download some of the Misawa-Kawada matches? I looked in the download matches thread but none of those sites seemed to work for me.

Even the fans in Misawa/Kawada smoke the Superdome fans. Check the Misawa fan who loses his mind when Misawa kicks out of the power bombs...and check the Kawada fan nearby who's crushed when he loses.
