Best WWE DVD

Recommended Posts

Anyone think a second set for a Flair DVD will come out? The first one did such a great amount of sales that I think it would be an obvious choice. They didn't even touch his feuds with Luger, Sting (I hated the "Unification Match"), or anything in the WWF besides the Rumble Match. They could also put some footage from his 1993 WCW return, although they would have to take out all Jesse Ventura commentary of course?

I think . . . well . . . I HOPE it's possible. There's so many more Flair matches that could be included, that it's just crazy to think that there's only gonna be one collection.

Of course, with a Horsemen DVD set possible soon, we should get more Flair goodness for sure.

As long as they avoid all Paul Roma and Mongo McMichael footage like the plague. I actually didn't mind the Horsemen version with Flair, Anderson, Windham, and Sid, since Sid was actually over and looked like a dominate guy.

I don't mind the Mongo/Roma footage so long as it's in a documentary form (i.e. in the main 2 hour feature or whatever) highlighting the entire history of the group. But so far as extra matches go, there should be NO Misfit Horsemen footage to be found.

I'm pretty sure The I Quit Match is on it. The Great American Bash '89 Match isn't.

I thought the Bash match was? Either way...Whichever isn't on the first one, goes on the second.

Checked and you're right. The I Quit is the one on the First Volume.

Hogan @ Uncensored '99 (Flair's one lone victory over Hogan)

That wasn't Flair's only televised win over Hogan. Flair pinned Hogan on Nitro in January 1996.

Didn't Flair also beat Hogan at the Clash of the Champions where "The Masked Man" debuted? I think it was by Count-Out, but it's still a win.

As for pinfalls... Hogan is like 230-2 against Flair.

Gotta have the Milk Truck segment from the night after Summerslam 2001 as a bonus. Also some of Angles promos from 2000 like with Kaientai, where he said their leader was the head ninja, and a few funny promos making fun of Essa Rios.

I'd also say that Angle vs. Hogan from King of the Ring 02 should be in there too, as that was one of Angle's biggest wins, despite it not being promoted much afterwards.

After all, he's the first man to actually get Hogan to tap out, if I remember correctly.

Piper did cause Hogan to get KO'd by a sleeper, but that wasn't really a submission, IIRC.

First time he actually tapped out. Sting and Luger both won where you said "yes" to the referee. Still, first time in WWF/WWE he lost by submission.

For Luger, it was obvious he couldn't tap out.

I mean, how can you tap out from a submission hold while you're on someone's shoulders like Hogan was with the torture rack?

Tap on the arm of Luger or something like in the No Mercy video game. It's more important to note it was the first time he ever tapped out as a good guy. As a bad guy it makes the crowd happy. As the good guy it makes everyone upset.

I had Hogan/Angle on there at first but decided that it really meant nothing to him in career and wasn't good enough to get the spot.

Obviously Various Skits and Promos such as the Milk Truck, The Condom and some of the Summer 2001 skits as well would be included as well as extras.

I'd say that The Rise and Fall of ECW is the best WWE DVD to date. Although I do wish the DVD had a few promos from Raven and Shane Douglas as extras.

Well, there's a secret partial Stevie Richards promo in it as an Easter Egg on Disc 1

You have to left arrow twice on the "Promos" chapter on Disc 1.

In terms of being well produced? Ric Flair's Collection BY FAR. Most depth, best matches, best packaging, spans the most eras, best of everything basically.

However, I'm a bigger fan of both Benoit and Foley so I happen to prefer their discs more. Most wrestling fans have an attachment to Foley's career via his book, and his latest DVD is like a supplement to Have a Nice Day. But, like Foley mentioned in a recent shoot interview, the DVD as a career retrospect could have been better. As a result, in terms of overall, I'd have to say Benoit's is my favorite because I have no complaints (well, the packaging is muy generic) and it has such a diverse number of matches from Japan, ECW, WCW, WWE, Pillman and Owen tributes, and a career overview.

Other good one are HBK's From the Vault which really, along with Hogans', got the ball rolling with these great DVDs. Note though, that I haven't purchased a WWE DVD for a long time, so I have yet to get the ECW, Eddie and RVD DVDs.

Some bad choices for matches, and some notable omissions.

I understand that not everyone buys EVERY WWE DVD, however, you should still limit it so that it's not pointless inclusions that are already available elsewhere.

There's really no purpose in including the JD match with Edge. For one, it's available elsewhere. Two, it's the worst match they had. Three, Angle loses. Four, the match isn't important. The only reason I can gather for it's inclusion is Angle getting shaved bald, but that's not too important.

All the matches, except for the Taker match, on disc two are readily available. Though some SHOULD be included for significance (Hogan), a lot are just pointless (Cena, Rey, Brock).

MY Angle DVD would include:

One or two of his HEAT/Dark matches before his debut. Plus some of his development stuff.

Vs Shawn Stasiak - Survivor Series 99

A random Raw match from around his debut

Vs Val Venis - SD 2000 (Euro Title win)

Vs Chris Jericho - No Way Out 2000

Vs Rikishi - KOTR 2000

Vs Rock - No Mercy 2000

Vs Undertaker - Survivor Series 2000 (maybe)

Vs Rock Vs Triple H Vs Steve Austin Vs Undertaker Vs Rikishi - Armageddon 2000

Vs Steve Austin - Raw 2000/2001 (the one NOT on the Action DVD)

Vs Rock - Raw 2001 (Angle snaps, and, I think, gets DQed. AWESOME, underrated match)

One of his matches with Benoit, either the 2/3 Falls match, or Mania. The cage would be a better option, but that's on the Benoit DVD

Vs Booker T - SD 2001 (Angle wins WCW Title)

Vs Steve Austin - SummerSlam 2001

Vs Steve Austin - Unforgiven 2001 (you could just use one of these two matches)

Vs Rhyno - Raw(?) 2001 - US Title win (Very good, forgotten gem)

Vs Kane - SD 2001 (After the heel turn, possibly Kane's best ever match)

Vs Steve Austin - SD 2001/2002 (leading to the Rumble, another forgotten good one. Not particularly important, but it's a good match and deserves a release)

Vs Hulk Hogan - KOTR 2002

Vs Undertaker - SD 2002 (the double pin/submission finish)

Vs Eddie Guerrero - SD 2002 (the match he won)

Vs Big Show - Armageddon 2002 (title win)

His match with Benoit could go here, but it's on the Benoit DVD so....

Vs Chris Benoit - SD 2003

Vs Rey Mysterio - SD 2003

Vs Brock Lesnar Vs Big Show - Vengeance 2003

Vs Undertaker - SD 2003

Vs Eddie Guerrero - SD 2004 (2/3 Falls)

That's about 25 matches right there. Obviously some would be cut, but I think that covers pretty much everything that matters and would make for a very good DVD.

Though most of Taker's early matches SUCK, it's still vital to include some of them. No matter how bad they are.

I think you also made a mistake skipping 96, mainly Taker's feud with Mankind which produced his first real 'good' matches. Again, just because. The matches I'd have (or at least a selection to pick from)

Survivor Series 90 Debut Match

Vs Jimmy Snuka - WrestleMania 91

Vs Hulk Hogan - Survivor Series 91

W/ Ric Flair Vs Hulk Hogan and Sid - SNME in 92

Vs Jake Roberts - WrestleMania 92

Vs Kamala - Survivor Series 92

Vs Giant Gonzales - SummerSlam 93

Vs UnderFaker - SummerSlam 94

Vs Yokozuna - Survivor Series 94

Vs Kama - SummerSlam 95

Everything to this point is really, really awful. However it should still be included. Cut out any of this stuff that's available elsewhere (maybe the Taker DVD they brought out a few months(?) ago?). There's probably something else you could get on here. Now, better stuff.

Vs Bret Hart - Royal Rumble 96

Vs Diesel - WrestleMania 96

Vs Mankind - IYH BA 96

Vs Mankind - Survivor Series 96

Vs Mankind - Middle East Cup 96

Vs Sid - WrestleMania 97

Vs Mankind - IYH ROTT 97

Vs Steve Austin - IYH CDIH 97

Vs Vader - IYH CS 97

Vs Shawn Michaels - IYH GZ 97

Vs Bret Hart - One Night Only 97

Vs Kane - WrestleMania 98

Vs Steve Austin - Over The Edge 99 (maybe/maybe not. Depends on their stance regarding Owen's death)

Vs Chris Benoit - Rebellion 2000

Vs RVD - Vengeance 2001

Vs Tajiri - Raw 2001/2002

Vs Ric Flair - WrestleMania 2002

Vs Jeff Hardy - Raw 2002

Vs Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle - SD 2002

Vs Kane - WrestleMania 2004

Some others I've forgot probably. That'll do for now.

Here's what I would put (for Angle)...

- His Sunday Night Heat match from the Summer of 1999 (I forgot who he fought)

- His "Official" Debut vs. Shawn Stasiak (SSeries 99)

- IC Title win vs. Chris Jericho (NWO00)

- KOTR win vs. Rikishi (KOTR00)

- World Title win vs. The Rock (NM00)

- Angle vs. Benoit (WM X-7)

- Angle vs. Austin (SSlam01)

- Angle vs. Edge (Backlash02)

- Angle vs. Hogan (KOTR02)

- Angle/Benoit winning SD tag titles (I think they won at least... stupid titles)

- Angle return footage (Spring 2003)

- Angle vs. Lesnar (IronMan...I hate it, but we know it might make it to DVD)

- Angle vs. Eddie (2/3 Falls from September04 SD)

Possibly as othe matches where he broke Hardcore Holly's arm in Summer 2000, and his return in 2004 against Charlie Haas (around August 2004).

I wouldn't mind Angle, Brock, Hogan v. Show & TWGTT from the MSG SD in June 2003. (Bias)

I thought he wrestled on Sunday Night Heat around June of 1999... I gave up on the WWF around that time, but I could've sworn I read it somewhere.

Oh well, make it his appearence then.

You're just making a list of good to great or meaningful matches.

The Flair/Taker Vs Hogan/Sid match serves ZERO purpose. It was a match designed to set up Hogan/Sid. It serves no purpose on a 'Taker DVD.

The Shitty matches ultimately serve zero purpose, so maybe show one of those matches and just have a montage of the "beasts and monsters" as a quasi joke for the fans to get a good laugh at.

Bret Hart @ RR1996 was atrocious. Why waste 25 minutes of space on this?

Showing Three of the Foley 1996 matches serve no purpose, One would explain the saga with a pre shown package or explantion.

Austin OTE will never be shown. Nothing from that event is going to be reproduced.

I considered the Benoit match but it ultimately was meaningless.

The Tajiri match is even more pointless...

No. Also, 'probably more, but I don;t feel like arguing' means you don't have an argument, but would like to pretend you do so you look cool. Please tell me what else is a bad choice.

Vs Undertaker - Survivor Series 2000

Note the 'maybe'. Also note that I said not all of these matches would go on the DVD (too many). This would be included because it's Angle's first big title defense, in which he goes over. Not too important, but it can be included.

Armageddon 6-Way HIAC

YES, this needs to be included. This was what Angle's (terrible) title reign was all about. It's also a fun match. It's a BIG victory for Angle - it should be included.

The Austin/Rock matches I noted due to the fact that they're forgotten bouts that people hardly mention. Both are very good. The Austin match was the biggest of Angle's title run. The Rock match was one of the first times we were shown Kurt completely snapping - it was vital to his character's development.

You don't think there should be a mention of his feud with Benoit?

You want them to skip a really good Angle/Booker match, which marked HISTORY (WCW Title changes on WWE TV) and was a big win for Angle? WHY?!?

Why would you skip the Austin Unforgiven match? Angle wins the title... as a face. It's needed.

The Rhyno/Kane matches are very good, underrated bouts. Why NOT include them? Are they the most IMPORTANT matches of Angle's run? No. But have I covered most, if not ALL, of the important matches? YES. So why not include a couple of good matches that AREN'T available elsewhere?

What would you prefer, a DVD full of matches taken from other DVDs? Well, maybe you would. But I was 'creating' a DVD that all can enjoy, not just a select group of people.

In closing, try making an argument in future, rather than 'this sucks'. But then, you've proven yourself to be a worthless poster in the past, so I'm not holding my breath.
