Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Why are the films so underwhelming and why do people like them so much? It's simply not your taste is all. Too much work went into costumes, writing, cinematography, acting, sets, and music for those films to be underwhelming. They just don't click with you, man. It happens. The real answer is that they're too torn between being character pieces and big fantasy action pictures. As a result, they're filled with bland characters and action setpieces that flow poorly and look far too glossy for what they're supposed to be. A lot of work went into the movies, but far too little work went in during the screenwriting and editing processes. Despite their ambitions, they ended up bloated and simplistic. Two Towers worked the best because it was already past the stunted, poorly executed exposition of Fellowship, and focused more heavily on setting up and delivering those big action scenes rather than trying to split time between half-assed attempts at both of them. I'll probably never watch these movies again.
