ChrisMWaters Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 OK, watching the Sting/Cactus match from the Mick Foley DVD...and I'm damn sure that the referee for this match was Bill Alfonso...future manager of Sabu, Taz, and RVD over his career. Which led me to wonder...what other shows with possible big matches did Alfonso referee on before he became a manager in ECW?
cawthon777 Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 I seem to remember him being the referee that saw 2 Doinks at WrestleMania 9 and tried to prove it by looking underneath the ring.
teke184 Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 The biggest match that Fonzie has been identified as the ref in, pre-ECW, would probably be the Flair vs. Fujinami match from Japan in which Fujinami won the NWA title but not the WCW title. (I think this card is called "Rumble in the Rising Sun", and it took place right before Superbrawl 1) That was Fonzie's first card as a ref since his wife died, as he took a hiatus from the business to take care of her when she got sick.

BTW, he was ALSO the ref in the infamous Brusier Brody vs. Lex Luger cage match in Florida before Luger went to the NWA.
Guest LooneyTune Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 I found it weird Alfonso was a referee for WCW in 1991-92 then was suddenly a referee in WWF for 1993, then heard he was brought in mainly to help Jorge Gonzales around (El Gigante/Giant Gonzalez)
