Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Maybe if moron Edwards doesn't settle for a FG, and actually tries to move the ball closer, the Jets would have won. Never mind the fact that he got his team to play an OUTSTANDING game lets find some bullshit reason to blindly rip on the coach. Jets didn't play an outstanding game. They stunk offensively, and Pittsburgh had two TO's near the red zone. So it wasn't like Pittsburgh wasn't able to move the ball down field.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Maybe if moron Edwards doesn't settle for a FG, and actually tries to move the ball closer, the Jets would have won. I can't even fault Edwards. For all the faults this team had, Edwards was able to inspire them to get this far. Throughout the season, the Jets exceeded the expectations people placed on them. Last week, they beat the Chargers, a team many thought they were going to lose to. Tonight, they came within a hair of beating the Steelers. That kind of success CAN be attributed to Edwards, because he's the guy that keeps this team going. It's easy to see. I blame Brien for missing NOT one -- but TWO -- huge field goals. I blame Hackett for his ever-so-stale offensive gameplan. I blame Pennington tonight for not coming through in the clutch with certain passes. Only 3 points from the offensive in the playoffs is terrible. But I don't blame Edwards. At least not tonight. My point is you never settle for a FG from that distance. Considering conditions and how difficult it is to kick at Heinz Field.

But it's the same principle of "ohmygodohmygodohmygod we're losing the season is over what will we do ohmygod" "you're up by a few and you lead your division" "PSH you say that now" "you're overreacting" "WHY DOES EVERYBODY HATE US"
NYU 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Oh no, I agree. Especially since the Chargers made the same exact mistake last week. You would think the Jets would learn from it. But the positives from Edwards throughout this season far outweighs this mistake he made tonight. But unlike Kaeding last week, Brien is an experienced kicker. He SHOULD have made those kicks tonight. He SHOULDN'T have been as shaky as he has been this season. There are other people tonight that deserve the blame more than Edwards. He may not be the most strategic coach in the NFL, and he may be piss-poor at time management, but he is chiefly responsible for inspiring the team like he has done the past season. OH, OTHER TEAMS DON'T HAVE $200 MILLION TO COMPETE WITH OUR PAYROLL?! THEY MUST NOT LIKE WINNING! YOU DON'T NEED MONEY TO WIN ANYWAY! BILLY BEANE! BILLY BEANE!" I don't recall the last time that I, King PK, HarleyQuinn, Max or somebody like that acted that way. You're going by the Cartmans and Precious Roys. I don't like being lumped into a group with Cartman. Hate on him, not the real Patriots fans.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 16, 2005 If you're a Pats fan or if you're Alf then you can't be too intimidated by the Steelers with their performance tonight. Their secondary can be picked apart as well. Which Pennington didn't do... that's because he;s Chad Pennington though. Still, he did better than he should have. So it wasn't like Pittsburgh wasn't able to move the ball down field. Oh and they were supposed to move the ball up and down the field all day on the Pittsburgh defense, and deserve NO CREDIT for causing the turnovers right? My point is you never settle for a FG from that distance. Considering conditions and how difficult it is to kick at Heinz Field. Under normal circumstances I would agree with you but I completely understand the logic here a) had the first FG been one yard closer Brien would have made it b) there was no wind so the conditions werent really that bad even though he was on the river side of the field (I think) . The bottom line is Brien has to make the second FG so its not on Herman Edwards IMO.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted January 16, 2005 If your offense only scores 3 points, I think you have bigger things to look at then a kicker missing two kicks.
NYU 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 If your offense only scores 3 points, I think you have bigger things to look at then a kicker missing two kicks. Which is why Hackett is getting a huge amount of blame too. Hackett needs to go tomorrow. Brien can wait until the day after.

Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 16, 2005 There's gotta be a spare Gramatica lying around Bill Gramatica~ unless he was deported for losing his kicking job.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Why would they release Vanderjagt? I don't think there's a lot of kickers who are automatic just waiting to be signed.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Why would they release Vanderjagt? He's going to cost from $2.5-3mill against the cap next year and seeing as how they have an offense that doesn't rely on long Field Goals he isn't needed as much. They have Martin Gramatica who will be alot cheaper.
NYU 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Then you go for someone new. Brien isn't reliable. Brien has under a 50% success rate. You find someone that actually makes more field goals than they miss, and you suddenly find yourself with an improvement.
Chazz 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Whew!! In hindsight, this Is the best thing that could have happened to The Steelers. 3 Years ago,(The last time Pittsburgh was The AFC No.1 seed) They beat a damn good Baltimore Ravens Team 27-10 to advance to The AFC Title Game. It seemed that the general consensus around here was The No. 2 Seed New England Patriots were just a mere roadbump on the way to The Super Bowl. We all know how that turned out. This by the skin of your teeth win puts everything Into perspective. Hats off to The Jets, though. Go Steelers!!

NYU 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 If Hackett and Brien were somewhat competent, the Jets would have won this thing today. Doesn't matter if it's the Colts or the Pats. Steelers will lose in the AFC Championship either way. Could be my bitterness talking here, but it seems more practicality than anything.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 It's your bitterness, don't worry. They played an absolutely dogshit game and still eked it out. They'll be better off for it. Nobody was injured, luckily.

Chazz 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 A lot of people tend to forget that New England (Last Season's AFC No.1) also struggled to beat Tenn. (No. 5 seeded Team last Season) 17-14 on their way to a SuperBowl win. I'm just saying...
justcoz 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 What is put into perspective by this win? That Big Ben is a rookie and capable of making bad plays, overthrowing receivers and general misjudgments. He's great and his presence has done nothing but good for this team but he's still a rookie. That their most effective weapon is staying on the ground, letting Jerome and Duce tire out the defense, with help from the offensive line and control time of possession with the occassional big play/gain to Hines, Plax or Randel El. That if they overlooked the Jets, thinking ahead to Indy or New England, it nearly cost them their season.

They played an absolutely dogshit game against a team they were an overwhelming favorite against. Jets are good, but admittedly, they are not near the skill of the Patriots or the Colts. If the Steelers "eeked" the win out tonight on the basis of hoping Brien will miss two field goals, what the hell are they going to do next week against either one of two teams that actually have it all together? I just checked myself again. Nope, it's not the bitterness this time. It's the practicality.
