Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I'm going by order of the picks as where they stand now. I'll update this a couple weeks after the Super Bowl and shit too. For now this is what I think teams will go for based on needs and holes they will have. 1.) San Fran - Mike Williams, WR, USC : I don't see them drafting a QB here as there really isn't a QB worth taking in the #1 spot. Mike Williams is the complete package when it comes to a WR though. He has the skills and attitude of Rice while having the build and tools of Terrel Owens. Williams this year and Leinart next year. Rome wasn't built in a day and its going to take more than one draft for the 49ers to get where they want to be. 2.) Miami - Cedric Benson, RB, Texas : Their last RB from Texas didn't seem to work out too well. Still, Benson is the top back in this year's draft and while there are rumblings of Travis Henry being eventually traded to Miami...well I don't see it happening. 3.) Cleveland - Alex Smith, QB, Utah : Cleveland finally gets that franchise QB they were looking for in Tim Couch. He's coming out early so holding the clipboard for a year and watching Jeff Garcia (who has a very similiar style to his) run an offense, along with maturing and getting to see how NFL defense work will do him good. 4.) Da Bears - Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan : I believe that in the end David Terrell will be a good player and the Bears shouldn't be scared off by his achievements thus far to grab Braylon. Its a reach to go for him this early but the WR pool this year isn't as deep as it was last year. Edwards can stretch the field and allow Terrell to move back to the slot where he's most comfortable at. 5.) Tampa Bay - Aaron Rodgers, QB, Cal : Lets face facts. Brad "Chicken Neck" Johnson and Chris Simms are not the answer here. This is a team in need of a solid QB and has been for quite some time. Its really a no-brainer here. 6.) Tenn - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, BC : I've watched this guy for the past couple years and he's amazing. If he keeps progressing at the level I think he can then you're looking at a guy who could be a combo of Jevon Kearse and Dwight Freeney. This is one case where the combine will help a player since he can show off his speed and power. 6 '7" and 261lbs...he's a beast. 7.) Tha Raid-ahs - Ronnie Brown, RB, Auburn : The Raiders need a young QB too but there aren't any worth taking this high. Jason Campbell is worth a look in the second but for now they'll take his teamate. Ronnie Brown is a big bruising back and he's the type of player Al Davis loves. Behind that young and maturing O-Line you can expect Ronnie Brown to put up big numbers in Oak-town. 8.) Arizona - Antrel Rolle, CB, Miami (FL) : I think everybody can agree that its time Arizona looks to build their defense. Taking the best CB in the draft is a good way to start. With McCown starting to show glimpses at the end of the year, Shipp coming back from injury, and having both Fitzgerald and Boldin the offense should be fairly good. Still, Dennis Green likes offense and has had problems with Shipp before his injury. I'd be surprised to see them pass over Rolle here and I don't think they will...if they do then they go with Cadillac Williams. 9.) Wash - Alex Barron, OT, Florida St. : You know, Ramsey might be a good QB but we'll never find out until he stops getting knocked on his ass. Barron has the potential to be a top franchise OT. Joe Gibbs also likes to run the ball and Portis isn't going to be able to reach his potential until he gets an O-line capable of making holes. This is a great way to start. 10.) Detroit - Thomas Davis, S, Georgia : Heath Miller wouldn't be a surprise here either, but its time Millen started looking at the Defense. I think Harrington will be alot better with a full year of Kevin Jones and Charles Rogers to compliment Roy Williams so taking a big time Safety here to protect the middle of the field would be a great idea. You could be looking at the next Roy Williams(Dallas) right here. Next 10 in following post
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Besides Williams at #1, this mock draft has made more sense than others.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Failed Mascot, are you referring to Mel Kiper in the topic line? I can handle a barb, but it seems odd considering I barely watch football.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 19, 2005 11.) Dallas - Erasmus James, DE, Wisconsin : Hi, we're the Cowboys and our defense got schooled last season. The secondary is still fairly good but they need more of a rush after being disappointed by Wiley's performance. This really gets them closer to that point where they need to be. 12.) San Diego (f/NYG) - Dan Cody, DE-OLB, Oklahoma : Talk about a steal for San Diego. Cody will end up shifting to OLB due to his size but he's going to be lethal in the already good Charger's 3-4 schemes. Its all about value here and this is a great value pick with the Chargers having one later on to grab a WR. 13.) Texans - Marcus Spears, DE, L.S.U. : I didn't want to use the "Houston we have a problem" line but hey, they do. They gave up on average over 110 yards per game rushing. Spears isn't a good pass rusher but he can wrap people up and bring them to the ground with the best of them. 14.) Carolina - Cadillac Williams, RB, Auburn : Stephen Davis' career may very well be over and while DeShaun Foster is very good he just can't stay healthy. Heath Miller could be looked at here as well if he's still around, but if Williams drops this far I can't see the Panthers passing this up. Nick Goings(sp?) was a nice story, but Cadillac would work very well with Delhome. 15.) KC - Derrick Johnson, OLB, Texas : I wouldn't be surprised if I'm very wrong here and Johnson is off the boards much earlier. He's a great OLB tons of teams will be giving him a look. Still, if he's available when the Chiefs make their pick then he's a sure fire bet. They gave up 18 rushing TDs and had no real threat in their defense. With the amount of good CBs available I think they grab Johnson now and focus on the secondary in the second round. 16.) New Orleans - Shaun Cody, DT, USC : Hey Saints, you were 30th overall against the rush. Cody helps fix that immediately. Nuff said 17.) Cinci - Anttaj Hawthorne, DT, Wisconsin : Cinci is stacked on offense and Marvin Lewis has to be drooling over all the defense players here. Hawthorne usually needs to be double teamed and even then sometimes gets through. The key will be keeping him motivated and going that full 60min. I think Lewis can do that easily. 18.) Vikings - Ernest Shazor, S, Michigan : Antoine Winfield needs help. That young D-line is starting to show glimpses of great things to come but Minn was still 29th against the pass. Ernest goes to Strong Safety, Chavous moves to Free Safety and Russell is either released or moved to their premiere DB in nickel situations. 19.) Rams - Jammal Brown, OT, Oklahoma : Kyle Turley's playing days are probably done, and even if they aren't he's not going to be with the Rams. God knows they need help on the defensive end of the ball but Mike Martz doesn't care about those poor souls on that side of the ball. Brown next to Pace is nasty and if Brown is available then its as good as done. 20.) Dallas (f/ Buffalo) - Carlos Rogers, CB, Auburn : Right now I have him rated as the second best CB coming out of this draft. Had him at #3 before but he's moved up with his play in Auburn's bowl game. Bill Parcells fixes his defense right here combining Rogers with Erasmus James. Their defense could be on par with Philli's next season. I'll do the last 12 later tonight or sometime tommorow

Fökai 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Good draft, although I don't see the actual draft mirroring the #1-3 spots you have listed. 1. Niners - won't look to a skill position, unless it IS quarterback. 2. Dolphins - won't look for a back, gunning instead for Edge or Henry in the FA pool. They simply don't have the time to invest in a new back when their offense is so depleted. 3. Browns - Good pick, although he has to impress people at the combine to earn this placing. I could see the Browns shoring up a hole in their defense at this spot. 4. Bears - They should trade down and grab a receiver. 5. Buccaneers - Good pick. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, BC He's not in the draft. are you sure? I heard he had declared Draft Countdown as him has a top prospect in 2006.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Well I'm not gonna change anything right now. I'll do a draft again after the SB with the final slots but it'll just be names, not in detail like with what I have right now. Still, I could have sworn they said on the local sports news he declared...damn.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 No big deal. Also, if San Fran. wants Mike Williams they could probably trade down, and still draft him.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Thing with mock drafts though is the real ones aren't done with trading down. Sure they could switch spots with Cleveland and each take the players I listed...but I gotta go with the spots that are held right now.

Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted January 19, 2005 why is everyone yapping about Henry and Edge for the FA running backs? Rudi Johnson's a free agent rb too.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I don't think the Texans will go defensive line with their first round pick. Just listening to the conversation around here, getting a rush linebacker seems to be a higher priority for them as they get almost no pressure on the QB (at or near the bottom of the league in sacks again, I believe). A #2 receiver is another possibility, as Corey Bradford won't be coming back and Jabar Gaffney is what he is--a decent 3rd guy. That would depend on which receivers are available obviously. Not that they don't need a stronger DE...I just don't know that they go for one in the first round.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 The Edge to Miami rumors have been around for a while. Say they do get him or Travis Henry, what then? I imagine Saban will want a franchise QB to build around, maybe Smith or Rodgers?
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Good backs are going to be available elsewhere, Miami needs a QB in the draft. Anything else would be the wrong move.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I see Miami probably going FA for their back, but I think they'll possibly give Feeley another chance and go with an offensive lineman.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 What I'm getting is this draft isn't all that great in terms of talent. Certainly not at the level of last year.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I see Miami probably going FA for their back, but I think they'll possibly give Feeley another chance and go with an offensive lineman. I think they might too, but I'm saying that's the wrong move. They haven't had a decent QB since Marino, and it hasn't gotten them squat. The defense was good enough to keep them in the playoff hunt for awhile, but they need to solve the QB problem yesterday.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 The Niners need a QB to throw to Williams, since Dorsey or Rattay can't do it.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Even if Kiwanuka was going pro, FM had him getting drafted WAY too high ... mid-1st round at the highest, and most likely mid-20's would be my guess.
