For some reason I really liked this match, and there hasnt seemed to be much reaction either way so far. I thought it was different from the usual Orton match and that it had a good build to it. I liked the fact that the finish was clean and that we saw a different side of Orton than we usually do..overall, I think the work and the psychology was very good. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars, and I think it is really under rated after a second viewing...What do you all think?

Looking for reactions on the internet will give you nothing, as most who regularly keep up with things knew it was a foregone conclusion. Takes the interest out if you know there's no way in hell one guy is going to win.

Well I didn't really think it was great watching it the first time but I might give it another watch later on and see how I feel about it then. However, I didn't like the Triple H/Orton match from Unforgiven last year so I don't really have high hopes for it.

I actually gave it ****1/4 when I gave star ratings for the Rumble. Granted, if I watch it again I might not think it'd be that high, but the match was great mostly for the fact that it wasn't run-of-the-mill for anyone involved, not HHH, Orton, or a WWE Main Event match in general. They tried something new and it worked. Kudos.

My hate for the night was focused on the JBL match, so I got a great objective view of the HHH/Orton scenario. The match played out well since Orton may be finally coming onto his own, even after he was supposedly strong enough to get the strap.

Watching it live with three other people in the room, I wasn't paying much attention, so it came off as really dull. After a second viewing the other day, I actually did like it and thought it was decent, although nothing too special. The last five minutes or so is what sticks out, when Orton gets the concussion. As someone said above, it was something different than the usual cheat with sledgehammer (although it was attempted) or run-in finish.

It was a good match. The problem is they've had far better matches, and on free TV. Not to mention they've been in the ring together so often that it doesn't seem so special when they wrestle anymore.

The way it look, it had the unique quality of it appearing to be a really violent match, with them bouncing and bumping and selling like it was a sick shots without it being really violent, No real Sledge hammer shots or anything.

Well, I think that Randy Orton is incredibly lackluster, so him being in any match pretty much takes my interest away from it. I guess it was because he was shoved down my throat so much. I don't even know. I do know that I hate his finisher. The RKO is a joke. Especially when Ric Flair is the one always trying to sell it.

 

When I see Randy Orton, I just think that he's missing something. Something is just not there. He lacks one of the tools, but I couldn't put my finger on which tool is missing. He's like, average everywhere. Average in the ring, average on the mic, average look. There's just nothing special about him.

 

He looks like a jock with too many tattoos. His promo's seem too forced. His matches are dull.

 

So, obviously, I didn't like the match. Orton played up the concussion role well, as I was legitimately confused as to what was going on when watching the match. Of course, the shoddy selling on the leg work took me out of it well before that.

I think that was more than made up for by most of the arena booing Orton like crazy for the most of the match.

I didn't really care if it was a good match or not. I didn't give a crap about Triple H/Orton and the only bright spot could be that it'll potentially end their feud.

 

But knowing the WWF he'll be winning the title at Mania.

Didn't care for it, but it was decent. I actually enjoyed the Smackdown title match a lot more, and they did it with 10 less minutes too. JBL is rapidly becoming one of my favourite wrestlers. He's easily the most improved in the company over the past year.

JBL having the belt is somebody's attempt to kill SD! ratings on purpose. That somebody, would be Jake the Snake Roberts.

The HHH/Orton match was death to me for a couple of reasons. 1. I hate matches where someone just works a leg. Mainly because while it's nice psychology it's boring as shit to watch unless someone like Ricky Morton is there to sell it, and as we know Orton couldn't sell it for shit. 2. The match was built around a concussion angle, which the live crowd couldn't possibly understand. To them Orton was just getting his ass beat down. 3. It was an extended squash and I don't wish to see 20 min. long squashes.

I've got to agree with this. I was against him getting the title and stopped paying attention to SD and all that stuff. But then after Tim Cooke pimped his match vs Eddie, I went back and watched it and it was great. A lot of his TV defences are great. I love his promos, I love his facials, I love the Stan Hansen/Ted Dibiase mix. JBL > most.

Well, that is the flaw of that type of match. On the plus side, usually there is more action because a guy can take a breather while the other two guys work.

 

I did like Angle just standing around watching JBL & Show go at it for the first part of the match though.
