Guest Loss Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Simple question -- which provided more enjoyment for you as a fan, 1996-1998 WCW or 1998-2000 WWF? I know what I think, but I don't want to sway the answers too much either way until others have chimed in.
strummer 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Feb. 96-Oct.96 was the only time I ever preferred WCW to WWF. The Savage/Flair storyline and later the NWO got me hooked on Nitro. I grew tired of the NWO stuff once Bischoff joined and the Piper storyline started up and got into WWF again when Austin was on the rise and the Hart Foundation angle was in full force. As a whole I preferred WWF 98-2000, but it really comes down to do you watch for wrestling or sports entertainment? WCW had better in ring wrestling but WWF had the better storylines and star power. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I generally prefered WCW's matches, they had stuff with the cruisers and Benoit that the WWF couldn't touch, and guys always got a lot of time in the ring. But his was of course counterbalanced by the senior circuit at the top of the card, and some brutal PPV matches. The WWF had better wrestling on top and a better style with the crazy all-over brawls, but the midcard brightspots were restricted to stuff like Kaientai matches, Owen-Shamrock, Rock-Shamrock, Rock-HHH, X-Pac-Jarrett and stuff like that, which while good wasn't nearly as good as the cruisers over in WCW. Overall though, the WWF was the more consistently entertaining product IMO. So while I generally prefer good wrestling to Sportz Entertainment, it's hard to go against the WWF, because it was just generally a more fun product. Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I thought this would be an all-time question, and was going to answer the Rock n' Wrestling era. Hmm... I'll go with WCW 1996-1998. Great Cruiserweights, some of my all-time favorite wrestlers, and generally entertainment every week. WWF 1998-2000 was eh... 1999 completely sucked with Russomania running wild, and 1998 wasn't that big of a deal.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Um thats a pretty narrow time table or "era" I think my favorite is the Era I grew up in watching not 96 pishaw 86-about 96 when I took a wrestling hiatus until returning to it in
Guest Catcher8C Report post Posted February 8, 2005 I prefer the Chicken-Fight Era from WWE NYR 2005-present. Subtitle: "It's all downhill from here!"
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2005 1996-1998 WCW I did love WWF 2000, but 1998-99 weren't all that despite the popularity at the time. WCW had lousy main events, but the undercard trumped anything that WWF was doing at the same time.
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted February 8, 2005 In general, from when Monday Night Wars started till when WCW died, I would say WWE. But this question was worded a 3 year period, so I say WCW. I think 1998 and 1999 sucked balls as a true wrestling fan and with Russo leading, he ruined the casual fans and we still feel those affects today. 2000 was a great year in 2000, but the previous two were just dog-shit as workrate goes. Both Companys had good enough storylines to get a wash from me and 97 was WWE's bets year for Angles. WCW brag the workrate in the undercard enough from 96-98 to get the nod. MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2005 Can I call it a push, Loss? The reason for me is this. While Hogan and the nWo got me into wrestling again (I missed a chunkload of the 90s), at the same time, I'd argue that I was a casual follower until 1997. I'd consider myself more of a WWF fan, just because of the history in Canada and all (and the lack thereof of WCW history in Canada) as well as a lack of access to it. Until we got Nitro on TSN in 1998, the only WCW access I had was butchered one-hour replays on the weekend on some local station (believe it or not). On top of that, while they should've had more, the Chris Benoits and Chris Jerichos at least had a cup of coffee with main events as opposed to what they didn't have in WCW. However, the advantage of WCW's era was because I was still a casual fan, I had not nearly as much access to the net as I did in the WWF's era, and so the element of surprise was there. I think if I had to give a slight edge, it might be to the WWF, because I saw the beginning of a turnaround in 1997, but really, both eras have their pros and cons.
