Crappy take on Curt Hennig

Recommended Posts

A piss-poor article, with all the depth of something totally lacking in depth. It didn't even try to give any real background to Hennig, and just seemed intent on trying bring him down, solely because others thought highly of the guy. Whoever the guy is that wrote this drivel needs to do us all a favor, and just stop writing this kind of crap.

I thought it was interesting, because it was different. Generally when people die heroification begins, I didn't see any heroification happening here.

I found this on a search for Hennig.....

Interesting take on his death.

A 10-year old could show better spelling and grammar.

It's "Hennig" in the photo. Then "Henning" in the article. Way to be consistant.

There's nothing interesting about that.

Thats probably because "Hennig" is his real last name, while he wrestled under the name of "Henning"

Personally, I found the article funny. Then again I think Curt Henning sucks.

I don't how any article put together that badly could be called interesting. Crap or rubbish, I could see, but interesting ?

If someone wants to take a look past any 'heroification', that's fine. They should just go a good job of it, and not some lame piece like this.

That was by design. The whole point was to piss off Hennig fans.

maybe you could be a little more consistant yourself.

I am going to email this guy and tell him I enjoyed his writing.

He was from time to time referred to as Henning in his early days in the WWF but aside from that it was always Hennig, IIRC.

"Henning" was so rare that when Gene Okerlund or someone said it, I thought it was a goof on their part.

I think you are being overly critical of the writer. Obviosuly he wasn't out to paint a flattering picture of curt. If you happened to like him, as it seems you do, then the writer obviously got what he wanted in creating anger in you.

He didn't create anger in me. The only thing something that badly written and put together could create is mild amusement at the stupidity of the person who put it together.

From your first reply I would disagree. However you probably know your emotions best. I personally liked the article. Your opinion may be different.

You read my fucking mind. How the fuck is this an "interesting take on his death." The "article" is nothing of the sort, it's simply a critique of his wrestling career and persona, and a flimsy one at that.

His "points" against Hennig are so piss-poor. Hennig was "out of place" in the late 90's because he'd wrestled in the late 80's? Tell that to the literally hundreds of other wrestlers whose succesful careers spanned the same time frame. Was HBK out of place in the late 90's? How about Undertaker? Hogan? Sting? FLAIR? And his costume looks like something out of Saturday Night Fever? A singlet? WTF?

To be fair he did ref the Luger/Yoko match at WM X.

Though that was three years before.

Christ, but this article did indeed piss me off. Time for a Dissection.

First I want to say that I may piss some people off. So if you think Curt Henning was a great wrestler, you probably shouldn't read any further. It's not that I am glad that he is dead. I value human life. However, I must stay true to myself and report the facts.

Translation: "Flame on."

Curt Henning was a very special wretler to many people, I'm not one of them people. To me he was Mr. Perfect Curt Henning, son of Larry "The Axe" a wrestler who never reached his full potential. Henning missed a large part of his career that wrestlers of his era were to excel in, his middle 30's.

Never reached his full potential? He made a living from wrestling, won numerous titles in different organizations, was a member of both the Horsemen and the NWO, was known to millions of people, and was widely loved and respected by the boys and fans alike. What more can a wrestler ask for?

Hennings back injury was always the talk about him and everyone talked about seeing him comeback but honestly everyone knew a comeback after years off only made Henning seem out of place. A wrestler from the late 80's early 90's competing in the late 90's? Two different eras. Wrestling had changed too much from when Curt last stepped in the ring.

Uh, it wasn't like he was out forever and ever. Just three years. Less time than Shawn Michaels took off, in fact. Wrestling didn't change THAT much between '93 and '96.

Not only did his stupid costume look like it was from Saturday Night Fever, he never changed it when he made his comeback,

Are you gonna bitch about Flair wearing the same trunks for 30 years too? It was a fucking wrestling singlet, it's perfectly acceptable attire for a wrestler in any era.

but the annoying thing with where he spit his chewing gum and missed it with his hand was annoying also. His finisher was nothing more then a suplex, and honestly the guy never had any microphone skills. He was a solid wrestler when he was heathy, nothing special.

Clearly this guy is just some dumb fucking mark who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. His finisher was "just a suplex"... that he could (and did) hit on Paul Wight correctly. His microphone work was good enough to get entire arenas booing the shit out of him. You are right on one point: he was indeed a solid wrestler when healthy. He was frequently not-healthy because he was one of the best goddamn bumpers this business has ever seen, and would simply mutilate his own body to entertain the fans.

Henning could have been great, he could have been on the same level as wrestlers in recent memory such as Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Sting. Instead he is more likely to be saddled along the likes of Jim Duggan, Scott Hall, Greg Valentine, and The Ultimate Warrior.

Hennig was a better wrestler than everyone named here but Bret. (And maybe Flair.) And when did Valentine and Hall piss in your cornflakes to get named as examples of bad wrestlers?

Ok maybe he wasn't as bad as the Warrior, but Henning was out of the sport before most of us can start to remember his early days. He was a former IC champion in the WWF and was able to put on one of the greatest matches in WWF history at SummerSlam '91, a loss to Bret Hart. Henning eventually made a comeback and after refering a match in 1997 he was out of the WWF again. After spending time in WCW, mostly unsuccessful, he was done.

...what was your point here? Yeah, he was mostly unsuccessful in WCW, that's cuz everyone not named Hogan or Nash was unsuccessful in WCW.

Heres an article about him dying

Below is some pictures of Curt from the net

Troll bullshit.

Whos name (real or not) is mis-spelled more often? Lex Luger/Lugar or Curt Hennig/Henning?

When writing an article on someone, at least spell their name right.

He's a silly mark who doesn't understand the business.

BTW, Hart/Hennig SS 91 one of the greatest matches in WWF History? Ha. That wasn't even their best match against each other. Nice try to be "smart".

This kid remarks that Hennig never "changed his singlet look when he came back". Technically, he did, wearing black/grey for the nWo (an awful look). besides, why would he need to "update" his look when IIRC, he was already PERFECT.

Terrible read and doesn't warrant this many replies.

Their KOTR 93 Match was much better than Summerslam 91, and I'm sure the two had great non-televised matches too.

This has to be, hands-down, one of the worst articles I've ever read. It's pathetic, juvenile, horrible grammatically and I could write something better in my sleep.

Jingus did a fine job enumerating the points, but since I'm just a mark for finishing moves, let me add this to the pathetic attempt for a writer: his "just a suplex" was meant to be a reflection of his technical mastery and ability to put anyone down for a quick three. Now, if you want to say it was "just a suplex" then I'm going to rip down all your Hogan posters and say "It was just a legdrop".

Damn, this kid is dumb...

Even worse... Garvins finisher was a series of stomps. (OK, he only used it once or twice, but still...)

The Garvin Stomp was meant to hit a specific body part, whatever he had been working on, I guess. I don't know that it was ever his actual finish, though

And the Rock's 50/50 finisher was an ELBOW DROP. Cena's finisher is a fucking FIREMAN'S CARRY. I can think of an assload of finishers less believeable than Curt Hennig's, which was unique to him, and best of all over with the audience as a legitimate end to a match.

He was frequently not-healthy because he was one of the best goddamn bumpers this business has ever seen, and would simply mutilate his own body to entertain the fans.

Hennig sold punches better than most people sold finishers

True, but turning this into a Hennig appreciation thread seems fitting.

Constantly injured? The guys first real hiatus was after he broke his back (or severely damaged discs) in the Summer of 1991. He retired, but was lured back in thanks to Warriors departure days before the 1992 Survivor Seires. After leaving in October 1993, he didn't wrestle again until 1997, and was pretty active for his entire tenure in WCW.

Injury-prone is Ahmed Johnson "injured every 2 weeks with something different."

Jingus, I don't know why you even bothered to dissect that. Lately from the IWC, I've witnessed more and more "writers" who can not even master the basics of grammer, let alone form coherant thoughts. When something is that poorly written, I can not even bring myself to grant it serious consideration.
