tominator89 Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/homeNews...il.jsp?id=23605 Interesting decision that could have gone either way. I wouldn't have been too surprised to have seen him test the waters, but not a bad decision.

The Czech Republic Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Remind me what it means to franchise a player again.
therealworldschampion Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 If a franchise tag gets put on a player, then another team can sign the player to an offer sheet. The Eagles would have 7 days to match the opposing team's offer, and if they do not, then they get 2 first round draft picks as compensation. If no team signs the player to an offer sheet, then he will get paid a one-year contract according to the top 5 salaries at his position(Simon would get about $5 million.)
The Czech Republic Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 So basically it's like restricted free agency and arbitration?
therealworldschampion Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Basically that's the idea.
