Sting v Regal from the '96 GAB is also a very overlooked and awesome match. Ditto for Sting v Austin from WCW SN 04/08/95.

 

It's fair to say the number of good-great Sting matches were limited after the Vader series, but he did have good matches here and there.

Sting I can easily say has had more good matches in the last 8 years than Ric Flair has. I can't for the life of me name 1 good match Flair had from 1997-2001, and he's had very very very few good matches in the WWE that weren't tag matches.

It truly didn't do a damned thing for me. I've found Sting tiresome and just a yawner and has been for years.

 

Vader was the last guy to drag something good out of Sting.

 

As for Sting having better matches than Flair in the last 8 years, no argument.

 

Flair, though, is about 20 years older and has a much longer history of good matches.

Alot of the wrestlers mentioned here aren't the ones to shoulder the blame. Its not their fault that the WWE has the slow "kick, kick, punch, punch" style. Remember Juvi(I believe it was him) did a try out in a darkmatch back in 01, went fast and furious, the fans loved it, and still the WWE blasted him and rejected him.

MikeSC, no offense, but you're stupid/haven't watched a lot of WCW to say Sting hasn't worked a good match since Vader.

 

I DO agree, that Sting's "good matches" stopped early in 99. Sting always needed the following to have a good match:

 

1) Sting carried by a hard-to-beat heel (Vader, Flair)

 

2) Sting works program with up-and-coming face (DDP, Benoit)

 

 

How about:

 

- Sting Vs. Chris Benoit (World Title Defense, Nitro, '99)

- Sting Vs. Diamond Dallas Page (World Title Defense) Nitro, Early 1998

- Sting Vs. Diamond Dallas Page (World Title Change) April 1999

- Sting Vs. Page Vs. Hogan Vs. Flair (World Title) Stampede '98

- Sting Vs. Booker T (U.S. Title Tourney Quarterfinal, Stampede 2000)

 

That's just a few off the top of my head.

 

Oh, and Red-and-Black Sting had an entertaining, impact-filled, albeit too short title match against Goldberg on Nitro, with an awful ending.

 

I'd have liked to see what Sting could do with better opponents in 98-2000.

 

Vampiro? Muta? Scott Steiner? Meh.

 

Hall? Hogan? Meh.

 

He never even did anything remarkable with Hart.

 

However, he has had good-great matches in that time period. Just gotta look harder.

Vader didn't "drag" anything out of Sting. Sting was a very capable worker in 92-93 when they wrestled.

Sting was a decent worker who was capable of being carried. I cannot name a single match where Sting made the match significantly better than it would have been otherwise.

 

Sting managed to look good against Rude, Flair, Foley, and Vader. Well, kudos to him. Looking good against damned solid performers isn't all that impressive to me.

 

Let's see him look good against, oh, Meng. Oh wait, he couldn't do that.

 

How about against Vampiro? Nope.

 

Against a post-1989 Mutoh? Nope.

 

Giant? Sorry, no again.

 

Hogan? Nyet.

 

Against over-the-hill Flair? Didn't happen.

Decent, if unspectacular, performance. Well, it was good for Sting --- but for Benoit, far beneath his norm.

No on both. Sting v DDP never clicked. The matches looked so horribly choreographed --- a rather common problem for DDP, admittedly --- that the match just never worked.

Please tell me you're not seriously mentioning his match with Booker at Stampede 2000 as being even mediocre. The match was BAD. It looked good in comparison to a complete card of utter shit --- but it was a bad, slow, meandering snooze-fest.

If you're making "Good-great" match comparisons based on his usual shit, then yes, Sting had some good-great matches.

 

Compared to good workers, no, he didn't.

 

Kane has had more good matches than Sting.

I'm not sure when it was but I think around the time of the Sting/DDP match from nitro in early 99, didn't Sting vs Flair pop a decent rating for Nitro and was also a pretty decent match?

I'm not going to bother getting into words over someones opinion, but to me, Sting was still a capable worker towards the end of WCW (and his career as a full time wrestler).

 

He was never "great", but he was more than "a decent worker who was able to be carried." Watch Sting carry Sids worthless ass to surprisingly good match at Halloween Havoc 1990, or trying to have good matches with Larry Zybysko (Mr. Stall) in the Spring of 1991 on TV every other week. In 1995, Sting was having good matches with a best his prime Bubba Rogers (a.k.a Boss Man), and was still having good, but short, matches on TV in 1996.

 

Sure, in 1998 on his quality dipped, but that can also share the blame with the newer style of booking including 1000 run ins per match 2 minute matches on regular TV. Plus his feuds in that time frame were far from good, thanks to poor booking and poor opponents.

 

Even recently, Sting had two good, but unspectacular matches with Jarrett in TNA. Nothing great, or even memorable, but it still shows Sting can still go, and is far from crap.
