Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 20, 2005 Will Smith = $$$ Surprising in a way Constantine wasn't able to overtake Hitch. Then again, this box office list is pretty unimpressive as it is. Only a handful of these movies are worth a shit.

Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 How the hell did Son Of the Mask cost 100 Million to make? I think a better question is: "Who in the hell actually thought this movie would make $100 million+?" I can see making this movie if it had a reasonable budget that a decent showing at the theatre and DVD could make up, but $100 million?!? That's just crazy. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 20, 2005 Son of Mask has a 100 million budget? Surely, several people got fired for that one. 100 million budget would be one thing if Carrey was starring, but 100 mill with Jamie Kennedy starring is beyond insane. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2005 30 million for an R-rated comic book movie not many are even aware of against a Will Smith romantic comedy. They have got to be happy with that. Hopefully the budget wasn't too high cause Constantine was actually good in my book. Very solid starter for a franchise. More story than action but that is the same thing with X-Men and Batman Begins will hit this road as well. This could be a sign that the WB finally GETS it. Highly impressed with that opening, only a million shy of the top spot. Many here predicted doom for the Keanu movie, but with bad reviews and all I believe it safe to say it's not a bomb, although I don't know how much it cost to make. Edit: Nevermind, I just saw it cost $100 million. Still, pretty good opening, let's see if the movie gets its money back.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2005 100 million? DAMN! Oh well, I'll still be buying it on DVD but no chance in hell does it get to 100 million. Man, that just royally sucks. I was hoping for a part two but it's going to take one amazing second and third weekend for that to happen. How the hell was "Son of the mask" 100 million dollars? I'm guessing the years of production but still, was the original even REMOTELY close to that number?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 21, 2005 It should be ok, unless it was awful and falls off the face of the earth next week. It could remain in the top five for at least the next two weeks. Studios pay attention to DVD sales, so sequels don't ride completely on the box office. Modern Man's Hustle 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2005 I really enjoyed Constantine. One thing I didn't get though, what's the deal with his tattoos? They didn't really explain it - I know they summon Gabriel, but it just kinda suddenly happened.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2005 I thought they just reveal hidden stuff. I thought Gabriel was already in the room, hence what happened with Constantine's sidekick right before.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2005 The tattoos don't summon anyone, it was very much like Papa Midnight's powers. Basically forces the hidden to appear, whether they like it or not.

pochorenella 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2005 Son of Mask has a 100 million budget? According to Box Office Mojo, the cost was $84 million. Surprising in a way Constantine wasn't able to overtake Hitch According to the same source, Constantine had a better per screen average ($10,000 to $8,000, highest in the top ten, in fact), and opened on 570 fewer screens. Maybe if it had opened on the same number it would have taken top spot.
