Edge coming off as the heel

Recommended Posts

Guest Risk

Normally, I stick by my belief that heels and faces suck ass.  But, this time, I was surprised.  Does anyone think that Edge is coming off as acting "heelish"?  I mean, Kurt beat him clean at WrestleMania, yet Edge, desparately, seeks to continue the feud.  HE is the one pulling the childish pranks, he is the one acting like the clown, and he is the one playing mindgames instead of wrestling.

It's weird.  Edge is coming off like an "old school heel", except the marks are behind him.

They never fought at Wrestlemania. Backlash however, thats a different story.

Agree; Edge is acting like a cocky, jealous asshole and he's pissing me off.  (If he had a fraction of Angle's talent, I wouldn't be nearly so pissed off).  Unfortunately, we're probably doomed to see Farrah Fawcett 2.0 win at JD.  *gags noisily*

Everything on Smackdown with Angle was Heel-ish. First, Hogan comes down and sticks his nose in Kurt's business. Then, Hogan hits Angle FIRST, while Angle was talking. and then, Edge cheap shots Angle on the top of the ramp with a spear. What the Hell?

lmao, I <3 your sig dude :D

Heh, as for Angle and Edge...Edge is good, and as for questioning who's the heel and who's the face, htink back a few years.

Bret. Austin. Now, who was the one being the so called 'heel', and who did the crowd approve of?

Check and mate. Blah

If Jesse Ventura was around, he could have said,  "Now what right does Hogan have to be at ringside?" I loved it when he would point out the double standards.

yeah, even though the crowd's firmly behind edge he's being the heel (technically).  the same thing happened with benoit last year, he acted like a total dick with the radicals & angle, yet somehow he was the face.  i blame steve austin's character for all this.

it would be a lot nicer if the bookers & writers started treating austin's character as the exception instead of the rule.  austin can get away with playing dirty because he's freaking AUSTIN, stop trying to get other guys over by making them more like him.

The Rock acted like a heel against Jericho during their feud too.

Edge isnt coming off as the heel (except for the few Angle fans).  Since when did making fun of your opponent over and over become such a heelish act?

According to 411, that picture is a print ad WWE is going to run.  It's damn funny, too.

Personally, I prefer the sort of "shades of gray" approach to heels and faces.  When someone becomes the totally watered-down, virtuous face I find them completely boring.  I don't think there's a rule anywhere stating that faces can't be cool, too.

I think Anglesault needs to...ya know... stop taking Angle so seriously.

Ok, nix that idea, wont work. How about Edge squashes Angle so he can leave for the Olympics, only to lose and never come back? Ya, better.

Edge isn't cool though. Making fun of people doesn't make you cool, especially when you look like some asshole who is making fun of somebody so that people will think you are cool.

Who would want to be a babyface?  They are basically suckups to the fans.  If I had a promotion, there would be no heels or faces.

If you like no heels and faces why not watch the amateurs?

Edge seems to be de-facto face as Angle is a brilliant heel but a sucky suck suck suck face.

Hogan has always done heel things and ended up a face. Just about everyone who ever turned on him was justified. Orndorff, Savage and when he pulled Sid over the top rope at the Rumble well.

Steamboat in his shoot said that Sullivan told him that he couldn't have turned heel as the fans would have cheered him no matter what.

If you take away the face/heel dynamic then what you are left with is an athletic contest. As that athletic contest is predetermined then what would be the point of watching?

They have to do SOMETHING to get Edge over.  Seeing as most of his fans are little girls, they just have him use insults like "dork" and they think Edge is a cute silly, non-threatening guy.  (Ever hear of Blink 182?)  And as much as Edge is the instigator of all the shit between them, he never moves past "Taunting Smartass" into "Vicious Sicko", so they still feel good about cheering for him.  Angle, on the other hand, is golden, like a golden shower.  He can work anything and everything.  If I were a woman, I'd sure like to be his girlfriend.  I'm just glad HHH hasn't been mentioned (blamed) on this thread YET.

He's acting very bitter and jealous over the loss. That's what ANGLE should be doing when he loses at JD

Sault is right.  Edge lost clean but he won't admit it.  His character seems to be trying to make fun of Angle because he can't beat him.

I miss "Dark" Edge, the one who screamed a lot, looked sadistic, had black tights, and wore a GOOD trenchcoat.  I HATE "Blink 182" Edge, the one who makes jokes a lot, looks like he is high and was hit in the jaw ten times, has fruity tights, and wears a GAUDY trenchcoat.

I think the shades of gray is kind of cool too. I dont think the WWF is doing it on purpose though. Theyre just idiots that cant see Edge and Hogan jumping Angle for showing how Edge will look bald makes them seem like the fucking heels.

Edge is such a fool. If Angle defeated Edge at Backlash........and Edge keeps insisting that Angle "sucks," then shouldn't Edge suck even MORE by default? Oh well, I guess the WWE can't fit that explanation on a $25 t-shirt.

I thought the funniest part of SmackDown! was when Edge speared Kurt from behind and Hogan was all "Right On! Hit them when there not looking."

Christian interferes. Misses Edge and hits Angle with a chair. They look at each other, tahn embrace. The crowd boos them out of the building. Angle gets pinned, shaves his head. Next night, Angle's a face. They need a big name face and Triple H ain't going to cut it, though I'm definately worried if Angle can stay over/booking won't mess it up.

Risk = Russo

Shades of Gray, shades of gray.

Damn, I so hated that era. It was fucking screwed up. The concept, people choose who they want to cheer, never actually went through. Faces were pushed as faces, heels as heels. Sure they were portrayed a little differently but it was the same formula.

That's very low of you to call me Russo, Brian.  You don't even fucking know me.  Whether or not you liked "shades of grey" is not the point, the point is, it's better than this generic "good guy" and "bad guy" shit.  Wrestling shouldn't be portrayed as a damn Disney cartoon!

It's one of the reasons casual people don't have enough respect for it.  I'll quote Jim Cornette to get my point across: "Wrestling fans watching a wrestlinmg program want to watch wrestlers wrestle!"  It should be about WRESTLING, NOT angles, NOT gimmicks, NOT run-ins, NOT swerves, NOT egotistical owners, NOT spoiled rich bitches, NOT backstage cancers, NOT promos, AND NOT HEELS AND FACES!

The MOST IMPORTANT aspect should be wrestling, not lame soap opera-esque "Entertainment."  BTW, Brian, I like things Russo never did.  I like long matches, I don't like TOO many angles, I don't like much gimmicks, I don't like much run-ins, and I don't like much swerves.  I HATE Crash TV.  So your insult doesn't stand.

eh, edge needs to take his own advise "1998 called and they're sick of you."  his little comedy schtick only really worked when christian was there to reciprocate the tomfoolery. now, he's just sad and pretty damn lame.  another thing, why the fuck does everybody who interacts with hogan have to use the guys catchphrases and stuff, one hogan is too many and too stale, we dont need hogan wannabes on every fucking show
