Edge coming off as the heel

Recommended Posts

That's very low of you to call me Russo, Brian.  You don't even fucking know me.

Yea, Brian, that's messed up.  Russo is God and Risk is, well... ;)

Seriously though, I do think Edge is acting like a heel, in the traditional sense that he's an asshole for no apparent reason.  Then again, The Rock was like that in every promo, which is where that shades of gray crap comes in.  Although I've never agreed with Risk on his insistence that faces and heels should be eliminated (no faces + no heels + no gimmicks + 95% of the matches being mediocre to bad matches from a wrestling standpoint = WWE even worse than it already is), I do kinda agree with him in that "shades of gray" type faces and heels should be eliminated.

Perfect example from tonight's RAW... Trish beats Jazz, Jazz tries to clothesline Trish.  Sore loser, classic heel deal, right? So Trish, the supposed face, has Bubba drive Jazz through a bleedin' table! Am I the only one who felt sorry for Jazz, the heel? The WWE seems to be doing that a lot lately... and nowhere is it more obvious than Edge's unprovoked "offbeat shenanigans" of Angle, just because Angle beat him (CLEAN! ) at Backlash.

Buddha?

Anyways, in 97-98, when there were no heels/faces, the WWF did quiet well in the ratings.  The only bad things were too many angles and swerves, Sable and friends, and the "Kane"(like the wrestler, not the gimmick) gimmick.  The numbers don't lie.

Whoa, Risk, for once we're tied! 1064 to 1064 posts! Well, until now, when I've posted this one and you with a faster connection have already posted like three others probably... anyway, I'll admit my shortcomings, I've only been watching since No Way Out 2001, so I have no idea what you're talking about.  I've seen some of my friend's WWF (because that's what it was called back then) tapes from that era, but I don't get what you mean by there were no heels or faces.  I guess that's my shortcoming, I simply don't understand how you can have characters without them being faces or heels.  It just sounds so bland to me, like they have no personality.

Anyway, maybe I'll finally get it someday.  For now, I tied with you post-wise! wh00! OK, anyway I gotta go to bed, wonder how many posts I'll have to make to tie you again tomorrow?

During the Russo era there were no "hhels" and "faces" per say.  Basically, the wrestlers were shown in a more "human" way.  They weren't "good" or "bad", they were more like real people(except for Kane, Taker, and Sable).  The biggest example would be Bret vs. Shawn and Bret vs. Steve.  Shawn was cleary acted cocky and annoying, but Hart didn't approve of America(but DID like MOST every country and got cheered heavily in them, especally in Canada).  Bret didn't like America but was fighting with Steve Austin, a man who DIDN'T suckup to the fans, cheated, used sneak attacks, and had very little mercy.

I'll use an example.  Say you have a girlfriend.  You love your girlfriend a lot.  But one night she has a one night fling with your best friend, take into account your girlfriend is very hot.  Your friend eventually confessed to you and you kicked his ass.  Your girlfriend tries to protect him and your coming punch accidently wings her.  You feel remorse now.

After all three of you have waited for days, you finally make up.  You and your girlfriend eventually have make-up sex, while your friend becomes VERY depressed about betraying you.  You and him were very close and had been friends since before you were even pre-teens.  He begins to start drinking lots of booze and you have to get him off of it.

Your girlfriend is so sorry she betrayed that she does ANYTHING you ask of her: cooking, cleaning, differant sex, ect al.  Now tell me?  Who is the "bad guy" here?  There is none.  The WWF characters back then were more "real."  The fans judged who they cheered and booed.

Oh, OK I understand what you're saying now.  The characters act the same but get boo'ed depending on the situation.  I get how that would be different - that would be kinda cool, actually.

I always thought that whoever was boo'ed was a heel and whoever was cheered was a face, which was why it always bothered me that faces could get cheered for "heel tactics".

You must be writing for Days of our Lives or something, Risk.  :P

But.. really... the best friend would TECHNICALLY be the bad guy.  I mean... he fucked your girlfriend.  So, what if he starts to drink, blah, blah, blah.

I would say, "That's what you get."  That's probably because I'm evil, but still...

IT WAS AN EXAMPLE FLYBOY!  Anyways, the girl did it too.  There are no bad guys in real life, unless you count terrorists and murderers.

I agree all the way.  And why is it that Angle sucks, when Edge is the one who lost at Backlash.  I hate people who just say sucks just cuz they don't like him/her/them.  BTW, I think it is a bad idea to have Angle shave his head, he was going bald as it is and now his hair may never grow back.  Anyone elses think they won't deliver on it? (prob not cuz the marks would like to see Angle bald)  Finally, did you actually see the back of the you suck shirt, it is revealed that the you suck is directed at the fans.
