DSL Connections problems...

Recommended Posts

My friend just recently reformatted his PC. Now, of course, it won't recognize the sound card and his ethernet card. So, I went out and got the drivers. I am gonna put them in, so that they could be recognized.

Now, I had asked him before he reformatted: how did he get online? He has 1 PC in the house, which uses the DSL connection. When he stays at his house, he usually brings his college PC. He told me that all he has to do is plug the cable into his PC, and then loads up Internet Explorer, and he is online. I remember I reformatted my friends PC, and tried to do the same thing, but he had to call Verizon, and they instructed him on how to make the connection.

He also used to use MSN to go online. He had a username and password. I don't know if that will mean anything.

Another thing is...her friend's laptop has like a little card with an ethernet plug, and all she has to do is plug the cable into that plug, load Internet Explorer, and she is online. I thought DSL required you to enter a username and password.

So, when I head over to my friend's house to help him, will the internet be accessible the moment I plug in the cord, or will he have to call Verizon?
