NOAH formation question

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering if there's a reason Kawada didn't follow Misawa, Kobashi etc when NOAH was formed but stayed in All Japan?

That's it I'm afraid, not much of a deep searching question with a mini essay or anything... but at least I'm trying :)

He stayed mainly to prove his loyalty to Baba and All Japan legacy and probably in hopes of becoming the ultimate leader and main eventer of the company.

I thought it would just be something like that, but wanted to check there was some legit ill feeling with Misawa or something like that I hadn't heard of.

By the way, who's the wrestler 2nd to the right in your sig? I know I know him, but for the life of me I can't think who he is!

Along with loyalty to Baba as his reason to sticking with All Japan. There was also the whole "Kawada and Misawa have legit heat with one another" as a reason why Tosh stayed with All Japan.

Kawada has had a long standing grudge against Misawa, based off his feeling that Misawa had things handed to him, as well as the belief, likely accurate, that he'd never be the top guy in All Japan with Misawa around. They did get into a legit fist fight at one point in the past, and the hardcore All Japan fans know about it, and it's been played off of on occasion when they've been in the ring together.

MiG: No worries:-)

Is it true that Misawa was somewhat favoured by the office because he was "better looking" than Kawada, and could draw more females? I seem to have read that somewhere...

Kawada did not like Misawa. He didn't like his business practices, style of booking, etc. and sided with Motoko Baba when Misawa wanted to go for more of Sports Entertainment style type booking. The first NOAH show was more flashy than any AJ put on in 2000.

Kobashi, Akiyama and Taue all liked Misawa and grew tired of Motoko's poor and "outdated" vision for her deceased husband's company. Kawada wrote them all off and would have probably crippled Taue if he tried to come back and reform the Holy Demon Army team with him. He felt disrespected.

The irony of this all is how Motoko welcomed back exiled SWS traitor Genichiro Tenryu back into AJ in 6/00 after Giant Baba had said he would never allow Tenryu to come back to AJ. Then again, Motoko also allowed the company to work with NJ, which would have also been something Baba would have probably scoffed at.

When Muto came on board and started siphoning off power and control from Motoko and Tenryu, AJ should have just merged with NOAH. It was like Misawa's vision for AJ except if he were on crack or meth. By the end of 2001, many people were probably wondering why the two sides even broke off anyways.

I really think Mutoh has improved as a booker tremendously. The RDOD and Voodoo Murders stuff started as a joke but it's led to some great matches. If the WWE keeps thinning out the roster, then Mutoh can keep turning shit into gold on the under card. Couple that with Satoshi Kojima becoming the default number one guy in Japan (going over Tenzan AND Kobashi losing to Rikio help a lot), and the grooming of the next ace in Suwama, and you have a pretty strong promotion.
