S.D hit the nail on the head... Mr. Perfect was completely misused in 2002. He won maybe ONE MATCH in his entire run in the company. He was treated like a joke, losing to people as lowly as the Hardys (as already mentioned). How can anyone fuck up the gimmick of "Mr. Perfect"? It's not like his character was a Swahili Voodoo Master who wore used diapers on his head.

Hennig's problem, though, was that his ring work was abysmal. I remember one match he had --- probably the one with Austin --- where he blew almost every single spot he attempted.

The WWF couldn't have given him a push of any real sort, since he, IMO, looked bad in the ring during that stint.

Did he even have a match against Austin? I know he had one w/ Val Venis the night after RR02 where Austin laid them both out w/ a chair and then entered himself in the 2003 Rumble (Didn't quite work out that way). After that, I don't remember seeing Hennig for a month or so.

The same night the nWo crushed a cinderblock over his knee. He wore a bandage the next week... on the wrong leg.

I coulda sworn he had one with Austin in February.

I used to have the match on tape, but taped over it with the RAW after Backlash 2002 (I think Mr. P jobbed on that RAW too, to RVD IIRC).

I still have it on tape...he wrestled Austin in the main event and while it was an OK match (forgetable, however), he cut a promo earlier in the night that made him seem like he was...drunk during the match.

After the match, they did the cinderblock angle with the nWo. That's how I mostly remember.

I think there was some sort of backstage angle with Perfect and Debra, which may have set it up.

I think it involved her cookies.

That was the night after the Rumble, Perfect ran into Debra backstage and said hi. Then talked about how he and Austin went way back, Debra replied Really? and he said Nah not really. Thats the reason Austin attacked him during the Venis match. Perfect later challenged Austin to the Raw match, which went barely 5 mins and was just a sideshow to the Austin/Hall feud.

You know, I was against everyone going crazy over MJ just because he was in that tag match on RAW. I thought that was f'n great, but wasn't a reason to sign him fulltime.

However, seeing him in this match with Angle, I'm all for him coming into WWE fulltime. I'm VERY impressed with him.

He's been carrying himself very well so far, and doesn't look out of place at all (except visually for the unusual tights). I wouldn't mind him on the B-shows like Viscera does to fill in spaces.

Holy shit what a fantastic match that was!!! Yes, sign him for good, now. That was great, one of the best matches in a very long time.

Yes folks, I am indeed in AWE!

I worry that Marty is like Scott Hall. Wrestling might not be the kind of place he needs to be.

If shawn has been able to resist the temptations and so has Sting, why wouldn't it be possible for marty?

Marty has failed a lot. I don't think it's a risk he should be taking again. It's like Scott Hall. He MIGHT be able to eventually control his demons, but I don't have a lot of hope and don't think he should be in the ring ever again.

this was before he did what shawn and sting did. The "finding jesus" thing seems to actually *gasp* work.

also, scott hall had kevin nash, austin and wwe forcing him to be doused in beer (alchoholic or not), while seemingly his best friend could care less.

Shawn's shown true concern(hell, how you think he's even still alive, you can contribute that shawn's efforts).

That's the difference. Scott was basically alone and not getting support on the road, Marty would be.

If you're going to blame the WWE for the problems he had there (ignoring that he was supposed to be on some medication that made him unable to drink), it doesn't explain his problems in TNA.

I don't think you can blame the WWE, Austin, or even Nash for Hall's problems. Hall is unable to resist temptation.

And while that is lovely, the WWE has to question if the risk of him falling off the wagon AGAIN is worth whatever money he might be able to bring in.

Not at all am I blaming wwe for Hall's continued failures but im comparing how their treatments would likely be treated differently by WWE's braintrust.

It's largely hall's fault he gave into temptation but WWE didnt help matters much in that last run.

with marty; im not sure if it's a risk to pay out a low end contract for a guy who'd largely be a JTTS who can be a decent story for a month before fading to heat/velocity central. Vince has always been a second chance guy(and marty had his share of them) but this time he'll have his buddy shawn keeping him in check and shawn actually does want marty to stand up again.

does that mean marty WONT fail? no but it's not a risk at all when he'd likely get paid scrap change and with the exception of what they have done so far in using him to push the mania match with angle and shawn, he wouldn't be used in a major role, so if he acts up again you would basically be cutting another jtts like they did countless others.

It's hardly a risk.
