Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 And man FUCK this tournament! It's all fucking screwy! Nobody has put a good whipping on the lower seeds(except UNC)! Everyone is playing close! And upsets are starting to come left and right! I don't remember it being this mad last year! So you don't like close games? They're ok, but I'd rather watch someone totally outmatched get stomped and embarassed. At least where college sports are concerned. Especially football.
Vern Gagne Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 And man FUCK this tournament! It's all fucking screwy! Nobody has put a good whipping on the lower seeds(except UNC)! Everyone is playing close! And upsets are starting to come left and right! I don't remember it being this mad last year! This sort of thing has happened in previous years. It has, and the tournaments suffered because of it. 2000 we got stuck with horrible teams like Wisconsin, and Purdue in the elite 8.
Slayer Posted March 19, 2005 Author Report Posted March 19, 2005 Hell, in 2000 you had two 8 seeds making the final four
Guest Shadow Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 how exactly did it suffer? Bottom line was those eight seeds simply outplayed those higher seeds. The idea of the tournament is to survive and advance. Not "Wait, only 4-3-2-1's can advance this far, go back #8 seed" The sell of madness is that anything can happen, if there werent big upsets like Bucknell, Vermont this weekend, it would basically be the expected teams winning and the sell to the casual fan is the "holy shit anythin can and likely will happen". thats why you see casual fans pick up a bracket again the next year knowing that their going to go through the amazing agony of seeing the upsets prevail. Â Maybe the game quality lacked in that 2000 season but bottom line was those 8 teams simply played better. You cant fault the "tournament" for that. Â I saw alot of bitching about this first round because of a lack of buzzer beaters and what not. Maybe it's just be but i would say 24 out of 32 games were close for a good amount of their games and 15-18 went down to the wire. So far no real dramatic plays that will be etched in our minds like Drew with Valpo or whatever...but still been 2 days of fun basketball.
Slayer Posted March 19, 2005 Author Report Posted March 19, 2005 In spite of the numerous upsets in the 2000 FFT (counterbalanced by the fact the #1 fav won anyway), it was one of the least memorable tourneys I can think of
Vern Gagne Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 I don't like upsets, period. I want to watch the best possible Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final Four. I wanna see Wake Foret play Washington in the Elite 8, or UNC face Illinois in the championship game. I don't wanna see someone like and Indiana 3 years ago, get hot and make the championship game, and play horribly against an Illinois, or UNC.
Slayer Posted March 19, 2005 Author Report Posted March 19, 2005 Oh man, you had to dreg up memories of Maryland-Indiana didn't you  That game was beyond awful
smh810 Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 In spite of the numerous upsets in the 2000 FFT (counterbalanced by the fact the #1 fav won anyway), it was one of the least memorable tourneys I can think of  I love March upsets generally speaking but I'll admit 2000 was out of control. There were some great games though. That Mich.St.-Iowa St. game is about as intense a basketball game as I've ever seen.
iggymcfly Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Seeing 13 and 14 seeds from mid-majors making the Sweet 16 is fun. Â Watching some 8 seed with 12 losses get hot, knock off some top seeds and make the Elite 8 or the Final Four is boring. Â Now, on the other hand, if you've got a preseason Top 5 team that picked up some losses in brutal ACC play while battling myriad injuries and now happens to be 20-11, well it's more than OK for them to get to the Final Four.
Damaramu Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Why does everyone hate Kansas so much? You know where I stand Yeah you have a good excuse. Â I was 25/32 for the first round. I lost 2 final four teams. Â I still have Wake and OSU though. Thank god. Â That's it! Things are screwy. I need to pick a random team! Fuck it! *throws hat in random ring* Go Wisconsin! 2005 National Champions! Â I'm just kidding. I still have OSU going all the way.
2GOLD Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 All these pre-game hype stories for the winning lower seeds are boring me to death. Why can't round two be like round one? Just start the damn games.
Damaramu Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Wow they just mentioned that Texas Tech doesn't play much defense and plays a ton of offense. What is it with that school?
smh810 Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Even though I picked against them initially I cant hate Gonzaga. One of their best players is named Batista.
Guest Shadow Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 I kinda want to scan the rest of the teams and see if there are any other wrestler names besides the batistia and bradshaw ones.
iggymcfly Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Thank god for Adam Morrison. He and Batista are the only ones that are even trying out there. Â I knew I hated Turiaf, and he's showing why today with his shitty performance.
Damaramu Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Man this Tech/Zaga game is kicking like 30 different kinds of ass.
smh810 Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Man this Tech/Zaga game is kicking like 30 different kinds of ass. Â And the announcers are in a coma.
iggymcfly Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 They've got to set up a play for Morrison here. He's made like his last 7 shots, while Raivio and Turiaf are ice cold. If they can just get Morrison in the lane, he'll tie up the game.
iggymcfly Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 GREAT MOVE jacking up a shitty three in five seconds when there was plenty of time to go to the basket.
Damaramu Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Oh and I had Texas Tech picked for this game! YES! At least I got one upset right.
Slayer Posted March 19, 2005 Author Report Posted March 19, 2005 Good job by Bobby and the Raiders  And add this game to the pile of evidence that Gonzaga was excellent as a giant-killer but sucks as an actual "giant"
2GOLD Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Bob Knight and Texas Tech are going to the Sweet 16 with a 71-69 win over Gonzaga. Â The Zagas actually have done BETTER when they were the lower seed underdog. ETA: Ronald Ross is damn awesome for a walk-on player.
iggymcfly Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Fuck my bracket. I've got 5 Sweet 16 teams wrong and one Elite 8 team gone with Gonzaga losing. The only reason I've still even got a decent chance is that I'm about the only one who's got Ga. Tech and Duke going as far as I have them. As far as the games so far though, I've just been getting my ass kicked.
bob_barron Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Well so much for Gonzaga going to the Final 4. Â On the downside- another one of my Sweet 16 teams is gone.
Mole Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 I'm glad I didn't believe in the Gonzaga "hype" and have them in the Final Four. Â But kudos to Bobby.
2GOLD Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 And slightly off topic, that Spring Break Shark Attack movie looks so incredibly bad. It looks like something Casper Van Dien and C Thomas Howell should be starring in.
iggymcfly Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Note to self: The "team that steps up in big games theory" is an absolute FALLACY. I tried it on Pittsburgh and Gonzaga, and they were both completely wrong. Â From now on, when I see a team like Stanford last year or Gonzaga this year that can barely beat the Cougars, they're going out in the second round every time.
Guest Shadow Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Knight's voice is shot. Â but anyways, that to me was the best game so far.
Guest Smues Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Yay Gonzaga lost. Boo that means I'll have to avoid the local news for a few days. At least this should shut up the whining around here about UW getting a higher seed then Gonzaga.
