A New "What If"

Yeah, Johnson was never going to make it. He would've been done as a main eventer the minute he dropped Hart or Michaels doing a move.

So what? He is still half black. What does him being half Samoan have to do with anything, does that somehow make him not half black?

I realize that WWE hasn't had a whole lot of black World Champions but other than Booker who deserved the title and didn't get it? Bad News, maybe?

Mostly because samoans have seen a lot more success in the WWF than black men have.

The WWF has always been the most racist of the modern wrestling organizations and I don't think Booker T or Ahmed Johnson would've seen anything in the 90s. And I say this because of things like Triple H and Orton pulling the race card on black wrestlers when it was not needed and then winning the matches. And there's also Lawler cackling about "the little Chinese guy" during the 2000 Rumble when Taka Michinoku got hurt and no one even tried to tell him to STFU. The same thing happened with Lawler during the Triple H/Booker T program.

I won't argue that WWE has done some really stupid shit when it comes to race, mainly exploiting it (as they did in the examples you mentioned). I hate that they even bring up that so and so is black or whatever. Guys should be pushed or not pushed based on talent and/or ability to get over and draw money, not whether they are black, white, Hispanic, whatever.

I absolutely could not stand Lawler during the Booker feud and hate that he says shit about Shelton. If all you are going to do is mock a guys youth then don't bring it up in the first place.

What race card did Orton pull? I'm not saying he didn't, I just don't remember. I'm assuming it was with Shelton.

But either way name a black guy other than Booker (which I think was less about racism and more about HHH's raging insecurity) who deserved the world title and didn't get it in WWE? Ron Simmons? Flash Funk? JYD? Ahmed? Mark Henry?

I also forgot to mention the Saba Simba gimmick. Just wanted to throw that in too.

Orton pulled basically the same thing Triple H did right before their first PPV match.

On Champs. I think JYD was a good candidate for an I.C. run during his early run with the WWF. Booker T should've had a run with the World Title by now. I think they could've done a lot more with Ron Simmons when they first go him. I'm drawing a lot of blanks on guys before 1984.

So did I. That was pretty bad. Making Tony Atlas into a "spear chucker" was a little bit over the top or more acurately way over the top.

Once again, I'm not saying that their is no racism in WWE, I'm just defending their lack of black world champs.

Maybe, but he as way over and didn't really need it, much like Roddy Piper.

I said other than Booker, who was completely buried in that feud and was more than over enough and really deserved the title. Although technically the WWF did book him to win the WCW title twice (from Steiner and Angle), not that it's an excuse for not having him beat HHH at WM but it is something.

Simmons failed as WCW champ (they mercy killed his reign ata house show) and KotR 97 didn't set the world on fire with he and Taker in the title match. Simmons was very good in his role as half of the APA but not a world title level performer IMO.

K-Kwick, Coach, Rocky Johnson, Tony Atlas, Elix Skipper, Johnny Rodz, and D-Von are a few more possible guys for you yo make an arguemnet for. It's kind of funny, I'm having trouble coming up with black guys because I really don't pay much attention to their race. I look at their performances and judge them on that.

But hasn't Booker "won" a world title in the WWE, since he dropped the WCW strap to Angle and won it back the next week? I know he hasn't won the current belt, but they include that in his "5-time" spiel, so I think it would count as him being a world champ in the WWE.
