Guest MikeSC Report post Posted March 27, 2005 Yeah, but then you would have LOL2005 on your screen for a split second while pushing the remote control buttons. I find it funny people are PAYING for this... Hell, I bet Karl Rove is behind it. The man is a friggin' GENIUS! -=Mike

Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted March 27, 2005 Unfortunately, this guy did sign up to be in the military and I understand that there are going to be times you don't agree with what your commanders order you, but that is what being in the military is all about, taking orders. I know that I for one could never get through boot camp, but also I might have too many episodes of second guessing myself to the point that I might have a hard time following every order. I think it takes a certain type of person to be able to be in the military and I respect those who have chosen to serve their country. My Dad was in the Army and my Uncle and cousin were in the Navy and all of them understood that if they are given orders, they must follow them. As for this deserter, it was not like he was drafted, he enlisted and he should have understood all the good and the bad which come from being a soldier. Even if he did not agree with the cause, in the military that doesn't mean jack. So he should be given a court martial and thrown in jail, becuase his reason is not good for deserting, while his fellow soldiers put their lives on the line. I don't know if he just completely bought the recruiter's spiel and thought that he was going to go into kinder more gentle military, but he comes off as someone who really did not think that there was going to be a war and that he could get college paid for. Whatever his reason, it is weak and he needs to face the music. If you feel that you might one day morally object to a war, don't join the military. Being a soldier means you do what you are ordered to do. This is why I knew I could never be a soldier, he should have also known.

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2005 If he had refused to fight and then put up with his jail term, I wouldn't be so hard on him. If he chose jail over Iraq for political reasons, then that is making a stand. But instead, he ran off to another country with his tail between his legs. He's just a coward who wanted a free ride and didn't get it so he took off.

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2005 What happened to the other thread dealing with this?... I deleted it. I was the one who started it, but there was already another thread and there is no point in having two around.
