Vern Gagne Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 I always thought it would be fun, to image the greats of the Negro leagues on ML rosters. For instance, still believing they lack that true number 1 starter, the New York Yankees sign Leroy "Satchel" Paige. Not to be out the A's are able to sign P-Martin Dihigo. Dihigo teams with Lefty Grove, to form one of the great Lefty-Righty duos in MLB history. Soon after Dihigo is sent to the Detroit Indians.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 Any talent would have been a welcome change of pace on the 1930s Phillies. In 1943, Bill Veeck wanted to buy the Phillies and staff them with negro league stars, but Judge Landis made sure that didn't happen.
Rob E Dangerously Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 actually, there's not much other than Veeck's claim to verify that story.
