Woman charged with e-mailing threats to Gov. Gregoire

By The Associated Press

BELLINGHAM — A Whatcom County woman has been charged with sending a series of increasingly threatening e-mails to Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Lee Ann Linville, 44, of Birch Bay, wrote that the governor was "dead meat to God" and that "There is going to be a murder attempt on your life, your childrens lives and your husband," charging papers filed in Whatcom County Superior Court said.

Linville also claimed to have foreknowledge of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, prosecutors said. She claimed the government had stolen her money and that Gregoire should pay her $2.5 million.

From January to March, she sent 10 e-mails to the governor's office. On March 11, prosecutors said, she wrote, "Steal from meagain Chris and you could end up like Safira," a biblical character who dropped dead after lying to God.

In another message that day, she allegedly wrote, "Ms. Greggoire I have decided to kick you in your nonexistent nuts."

And on March 22: "If any member of my family is threatened orharmed you will discover a rock driven through your skull by no human hand. I walk in an avenue you do not even comprehend."

Gregoire said today she did not know of the threats, but added: "I am not going to be deterred by anybody who is going to launch a death threat to me. I experienced it when I was attorney general. I understand why some people fixate on an individual who presides as governor or attorney general or as president of the United States."

Linville was arrested Saturday on the felony count and ordered held on $100,000 bail after a court appearance Monday.

Her lawyer, Matt Peach, said during Monday's hearing that his client "wants you to know that she has absolutely no history of any kind of violence against anyone or anything."

Linville must undergo a psychological evaluation, even though she said she had three between 2000 and 2003, the Bellingham Herald reported.

I should really use some of those lines on other people. MikeSC, I have decided to kick you in your nonexistant nuts. :headbang:

Anyways, this woman sounds a bit like a nut

Dumb move on her part --- but calling Gregoire "governor" is an insult to anybody who respects ACTUAL legitimate voting.

Maybe she should have said she was disenfranchised...

Nah. She should've claimed to be one of the dead people who voted for her.

Nah she's alive. She could however be one of the convicted felons who illegally voted for her.

Dear god, don't tell me this thread is going to spiral into another election fraud back and forth that goes nowhere but makes both sides look incredibly stupid.

I think the irony kind of stood on its own.

What's the irony? A democrat stealing an election?

Gee, NEVER happens.

...Chicago, NYC, New Orleans --- nope, no Democrat shenanigans there...

No, the irony is a Republican bitching about a Democrat stealing an election.

I also find it humorous that you're more appalled by a woman referring to someone as governor than you are that this woman threatened the governor's life.

Care to name the last Republican to "steal" an election?

And, I'm BEGGING you to name Bush --- because I can wipe that charge off the court in seconds.

No, the woman who threatened her life was stupid and idiotic.

But Gregoire should not be referred to as governor.

It's not any fraud that may have happened that bothers me as much as Gregoire saying that it was basically a tie after the 1st and 2nd counts of the ballots had Rossi winning, then when the 3rd count had her ahead she says ITS OVER MOVE ON.

Especially since the number of overvotes in Democratic stronghold King County were more than her margin of victory.

And King County kept finding new votes EVERY single time they recounted. And not a few, but usually in the triple digits.

There were alot bigger percentages of ballot increases in many other counties. King just stands out because the sheer number of people was so large.

The three vote counts were mandated by law. That's state law.

Yes, but it's not state law that when you lose it's a tie, and win you win we move on.

Edit: or that dead people and felons vote.

And it just stopped --- in spite of considerable evidence of voter fraud.

The whole "more votes than registered voters" in King County is a constant problem.

And, just to clarify, the 3rd count was not mandated by law. It was paid for by the Democrats,

It was in the law as long as they paid a deposit. If the result was changed, they got that money back. I think they were fighting over this, that the state democratic party was calling for this.

The thing I hate most is the calls for a revote. I really don't care who's governor, but a re-vote would just be incredibly costly and it would still not solve the problem of voter fraud. There's completely no covergae on the level of fraud in smaller counties, some of whom had much greater increases in terms of percentages of votes over both recounts.

In this case, there is no other option. A revote is needed, desperately. There were SO many problems with King County that nobody can actually say, definitively, that Gregoire even REALLY won.

I can't argue with that.

But look at how poorly Bush was treated after he was declared the winner in 2000, despite not clearly winning. Now look at how poorly this woman's being treated after she won, despite not clearly winning.

Except Bush clearly did win. The whole electoral vote thing. God knows they tried to find something in FL and failed.

Gregoire did not clearly win. The whole "more votes than voters in King County" thing that is larger than her margin of "victory".

There were problems with other counties too. Votes didn't get counted the first, and second time through, most of everywhere. People who weren't suposed to vote did vote, on both sides. Neither side has offered any solution to fixing those problems.

King County has more votes than voters. And THAT County is what put Gregoire over the "top" in her "win".

I'd HIGHLY recommend checking out soundpolitics.com. They've actually done a rather comprehensive job following this story.

I don't object to the word "won". I object to the word "clearly".

There was nothing clear about that election.

So how are they going to stop the same thing from happening? They still haven't changed the system which allowed such a thing to happen. They need a real solution to the problem of voter fraud before they can move forward getting the proper count on the election.

Bush won more electoral votes.

Close --- but clear.

There were not substantive problems in FL (the US Civil Rights Commission found one person who claimed he was prevented from voting --- and even HIS story was suspect).

So how are they going to stop the same thing from happening? They still haven't changed the system which allowed such a thing to happen. They need a real solution to the problem of voter fraud before they can move forward getting the proper count on the election.

How you fix the problems is to COMPLETELY purge the lists and make EVERYBODY re-register to vote at least 90 days before the election. After that point, nobody else is added --- period.

Put in a database so when somebody dies, they can be removed immediately. Ditto if they move.

Make sure all states voter list databases are linked, to prevent voters from being able to vote in multiple states.

And ditto if they get their first felony conviction.
