A whacked out mystery to be sure, but still a mystery. The big question for Sahara - how/why did a Confederate Ironclad end up buried in an African desert - is never answered. There's less sleuthing and more explosions. That said, Sahara is still a fun movie, and worth seeing. But I wouldn't put it above National Treasure. Then end it with open bracket, /spoiler, close bracket. The movie said it was pushed up the river by a storm. It doesn't explain how it got to Africa in the first place, why everyone was in the lower hold when they died, or any number of other loose ends that the book ties up.
