Guest DeputyHawk Report post Posted April 14, 2005 It's difficult to proclaim a Raw Wrestler of the Year based purely on TV wins. TV promos alone (let alone house shows & PPV's) play just as big a part, probably more so, in who's being pushed effectively at any given time. Remember Hogan used to hardly ever wrestle on WWF TV but he'd cut lots of promos and was always the star of the show. For me, Razor is definitely Top 10 for 1993, maybe even pushing Top 5, but certainly not the Raw Wrestler of the Year. For me, Raw Wrestler of the Year for 1993 has to be Yokozuna (held the title longer than anyone and was the focus for all the faces) with Bret Hart, Lex Luger, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Mr Perfect, Jerry Lawler and probably Tatanka rounding out the Top 10. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 You're missing the point. This is for WRESTLER of the year. Meaning who had the best WRESTLING year. Not entertainment (promos, run-ins).
Guest Shadow Report post Posted April 14, 2005 Shawn was mixing it up very well in 1993 with his great series of matches against Marty and his excellent house show series with Hennig. If we're talking WRESTLING year; Shawn takes it for having the most consistant higher level of quality that year. I'm counting just the tv show because in 1993 it was rarely a major match and 90% of the matches as you can tell were squashes or jobber matches. I'm judging purely by content of their work in 1993 overall, from tv show, ppvs to house shows. Top 5 1. Shawn Michaels 2. Curt Hennig 3. Razor Ramon 4. Marty Jannetty 5. 123 Kid
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Shawn Michaels was also a different Shawn Michaels than the HBK we saw in 1995-1996. He got pudgy, defended the IC very little, and besides the ridiculous title changes with Marty which made no sense, had terrible/bad match feud with Tatanka, Jim Duggan, Crush, etc. and had the ultimate dissapointing bout Vs. Hennig at SummerSlam.
IWD 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 My thoughts for 1993... 1. Bret Hart 2. Shawn Michaels 3. Yokozuna 4. Lex Luger 5. Curt Hennig Cheers.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 had terrible/bad match feud with Tatanka, Jim Duggan, Crush, etc. and had the ultimate dissapointing bout Vs. Hennig at SummerSlam. I don't think I've seen a BAD Shawn Michaels IC title match from 92-93, and I'm including Skinner, Kamala, and Virgil in that group.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, Marty Jannetty, and maybe even Razor Ramon were all having much better matches than the uninspired, out of shape, 1993 Shawn Michaels (and 2 of the 3 are the only ones to get something good out of him). I still love the joke Johnny Polo says about his gut during the cage match against Jannetty. Tops, Shawn Michaels would be #5 for 1993, since other than the ones already mentioned, there wasn't a whole lot for singles wrestling.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2005 Duggan Vs. HBK on Raw 93 = Bad Match. Duggan Vs. HBK Lumberjack Rematch on Raw 93 = Bad Match HBK Vs. Tatanka WM 9 = Energetic (at points), but still Bad Match HBK vs. Crush = Better than should've been, but lots of resting and boring. HBK Vs. Perfect SummerSlam 93 = Eh... That's just off the top of my head. El Matador Vs. Shawn Michaels from WM 8 is a bad match. I remmeber liking it, but watching the tape makes me loathe it. Michaels Vs. Jannetty Cage Match IC Title 93 = Dull Match Michaels as a heel = Blah matches, great character. Michaels as a face = Blah character, Great matches.

Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted April 20, 2005 1994 Raw MVP: 3 Nominees: I.R.S., Lex Luger, Razor Ramon 1995 Raw MVP: 3 Nominees: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon 1996 Raw MVP: 3 Nominees: Marc Mero, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin I agree with all three, except for 1994. Although Bret Hart only wrestled 3 RAW singles Matches, the match vs. the Kid was easily ****-ish, the Prichard match between ***-****, and the Kwang match wasn't too bad either. I say for 1994, I.R.S., Bret Hart, and Razor Ramon.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 You're absolutely correct about Bret. I got too absorbed into Perfect/Luger angle and Luger/Million Dollar Corp. angle. Bret also put a good effort out against Neidhart and Owen in a tag.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted April 20, 2005 One could argue in Lugers case though, that somehow, Luger and Diesel had a good match that didn't include someone else to carry them. I still don't know what inspired them both, but the match was quite good considering the stinkers they've been putting on up until then in the WWF.
