I'm interested in buying some of the propaganda films the Americans and Germans used to rally support for their causes... Has a collection ever been released?

probably the most famous american example. if i remember correctly, it's about seven hours long total, and a complete steal at $15.

easily the most famous german example. it's boring as shit, but absolutely key in understanding the aesthetic principles of fascism: subsuming individual identity into parts of a mass ornament (LOTS of gorgeously geometric shots of crowds) and such. it is not a steal at $26--should be available at a really good local video store, if you have one around.

i've heard a lot of things about this one as well, but i've never seen it, and it's almost impossible to find.

American Film Academy has a really good historical archive if you can get to it. Any television piece ever produced, including news reports, is archived there.

When I think propaganda films I think of stuff like Gung Ho with Randolph Scott. It depends on what you want, as in documentary stuff or movies. Pretty much any US film during WW2 has an edge of propaganda in some way.

Triumph of the Will is a strange experience. I saw it in college and was expecting all this evil Nazi shit, and I got a bunch of would be boy scouts and political speeches not all that different from today. No overt evil Nazi hate speech, no atrocity stuff....come to think of it, that's probably why it's disturbing.

If you go to this part of archive.org, you'll find some WWII proganda. Including the cartoons sections

I recommend getting the Disney and Looney Toons films. Those are all excellent.
