10 minutes of Batman Begins footage

Recommended Posts

Bale actually uses a different voice for Batman which already makes it better than any of the other four films in my opinion. Clooney didn't try, Kilmer was alright, and Keaton wasn't much better. I think people like Keaton's Batman just out of some nostalgic attachment. I used to love Burton's Batman but as I watched it more over the years, I realized that it's a pretty crappy movie. It's not very entertaining at all. At least the Schumacher films had camp comedy with Carrey, Jones, Schwarzenegger, Thurman, etc.

I'll be the first to admit the ones with Tim Burton weren't great, but they were leaps and bounds better than the Schumaker crap. Burton put the focus on the actual world of Batman and envirnment of Gotham City, whereas Schumaker's films just look like they're there to spotlight the sets and costumes.

Burton's films(espeically Returns) were about style just as much as Shumacher's films, just different styles. Burton's films were a gothic carnivale, while Shumacher's films were a neon circus from hell.

Begins may be the only live action Batman that's substance over style since the 40's. I haven't seen the Batman serials from the 40's, but I'd assume they were substance over style

I guess they wanted people to tie this in with the other Batman movies, even if it probably contradicts parts of the story from the 1989 film, but I STILL DON'T GET THE POINT OF PUTTING BATMAN IN BODY ARMOR. He's not Ironman, here. He's an acrobat and martial artist. If they're worried about bullets, they make lightweight kevlar that would give him protection. How the fuck is he even supposed to move in that thing, let alone do flips and swing around rooftops?

I saw a clip of Bale's stunt double running across and off of a building in the suit. He didn't have the cape though. He looked pretty damn fast.

edit: found the link, bitch

I'm not concerned with his running speed, I'm talking about his total body movement. He runs fast, but he has to struggle to get over the ledge onto the rooftop. I can't imagine body armor would allow someone to be flexible and lightweight enough to do the kinds of fighting Batman's supposed to be able to do.

...I didn't see him struggle in any part of the video. I only brought up running speed because that's something that people complained about in the first four films and also in the Smallville footage. His suit is just basically a thicker version of Spiderman's.

No. That's not it at all. That's pretty much the opposite of what every person on the production wanted. They're aiming for a functional Batman. Look, my favorite Batman design ever is the Neal Adams blue/gray version, but seeing that on the bigscreen would be the biggest letdown for me as a Batman fan. As great as it is seeing a non-superpowered vigilante dodging bullets in skin-tight spandex, when it comes to real life, I think a non-superpowered vigilante dodging bullets in an experimental armored suit designed for the military makes more sense, especially since technology has come so far that he can TURN HIS NECK. What next? Talking motion pictures?

I figured if that's what they really were trying to do, they'd have used the Joker and just said "those other movies never happened".

Again, I still don't see what's wrong with Batman running around in a dark bodysuit with a kevlar cape to protect him. As it stands now, Daredevil has had a far more faithful portrayl on the big screen than Batman has.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I won't see the movie because of the body armor, but I'd feel better about seeing it if he didn't. Body armor has never been part of the Batman mythos, and for them to include it when the only other time we saw him wear it was in some movies this one's supposed to have no connection too...it just makes me wonder if the films are really not supposed to tie together at all.

That is what they're doing. The Joker is going to be in the sequel with Two-Face in the third movie.

The second movie will probably develop the friendship between Batman, Gordon, and Dent so when Dent becomes Two-Face in the third, he's not just some random guy you see in a short clip like in Batman Forever.

I always thought the most amazing thing about Harvey Dent in the previous films is he went from a black man to a white Texan?

and I'm declaring right now that in whatever sequel he's used in, Paul Giamatti should be the Penguin!

It'd have been excusable if Tommy Lee Jones had actually done a good job playing the part.

This doesn't really have anything to do with the topic but I always wanted Bane to get brass knuckles type weapons made out of kryptonite and then beat the shit out of Superman.

Oh, man, hell with Doomsday, THAT should've been how Supes died. Or that "make a bullit out of kryptonite" thing.

To be fair, in the comics he's not neccessarily wearing spandex. It's mostly kevlar-based.

Q: is this going to be the official All Things Batman thread for the time being?

I have gotten the Batman: Animated Series Volume 3 DVD set, and would be glad to answer questions about it.

Some basic stuff:

The extras are "Gotham's New Knight", a feature on the newly introduced Batgirl, commentary on "Read my Lips", video commentary (little video clips of some of the crew around a table during the episode) of House and Garden, and commentary on "Harlequinade."

Because of his reviews of the first DVDs sets, this is the first time I actually wish Zsasz was still around.

No ticket for Batman Begins, or even a trailer, but they did put in a cel reproduction (mine was of Batman and Robin, not sure if they have others), and a game piece for a contest online (I didn't win anything, though).

After watching the whole set, I think it's not as good of a collection of eps as the previous sets (although the first set had some relatively poor eps on it, while this one is more consistent). Of course, it's all basically in order, so no matter. There aren't as many strong, dramatic episodes in this set either, although we get plenty of Al Ghul, and some hilarious Harley Quinn vehicle eps (although Harley's Holiday is sooo out of place--it's more like a Tiny Toons episode). I also don't feel that "His Silicon Soul" or "Bane" has held up very well.

Although, watching it through after the 2nd set, for the first time I noticed that not only was Veronica Vreeland a recurring character, but she actually got some development over time.

Yeah, I remember looking through the episode list for Volume 3 and nothing really jumped out at me. I just watched the episode of Gotham Knights, Legends of the Dark Knight. It's awesome. Seeing Batman and Robin in their inhumanly muscled up forms and the bright colors contrasted with Frank Miller's Batman was pretty cool to see. I also recognized the voice of Miller's Batman this time around as being Michael Ironside. I can't believe I never caught that before.
