Early Smackdown Taping (*Spoilers*)

Recommended Posts

If he's out of action for another three months, it makes no sense to start teasing his return match with Undertaker now, because WWE lack the patience and ability to hold the match off in a decent manner, and the casual fans lack the patience to wait that long for the match.

And any word on if Orton followed Vince's advice and has been 'working out' ?

At least they aren't blowing the load on that match for a PPV to take place two weeks later. Maybe they intend to build the match up with Orton frustrating Taker with hit-and-run tactics before Taker finally gets to him, only for Orton to beat him in the match, though likely it'd be Taker going over.

I for one don't want to see Orton beating the Taker. Let someone else get the victory against him.

It's not like going over Taker at this point would do much for Orton. The only meaningful job Taker could do at this point was giving up his Mania streak. And obviously, Orton was denied that rub.

I'm probably reading too much into all of this but Orton officially showing up on SmackDown says, to me, that WWE will indeed be doing Cena vs Batista at SummerSlam (since it can't be Orton/Batista) as Cena will have lost the WWE title without being pinned (and whoever wins it - Jericho, I would think - will go to SmackDown with it), thus making him a challenger for the world title

I remember they wanted to switch the titles, so if this is true, then the WWE title is going to be on Raw for a good while now.

If Batista is going over to SD as Champion, that means he beats Hunter at Vengeance. Which means Hunter beats Cena soon after, because, you know, he just 'put Batista over huge' and needs a big win back.

Smackdown spoilers from PWInsider

SMACKDOWN SPOILERS FROM HERSHEY, PA, HOUR ONE

by Dave Scherer @ 9:47:00 PM on 6/14/2005

My old pal LBS is at tonight's Smackdown taping in Hershey, PA and called in the following results.

JBL did a promo ripping on ECW. He tore them up on the mic, kind of like last week.

Chris Benoit pinned Doug Basham. After the match, JBL, Orlando Jordan and Danny Basham attacked Benoit. The lights went out Undertaker came out and made the save. JBL ran down Taker for getting involved. Teddy Long came out and said that JBL would take on the Undertaker tonight in a No DQ match. There was a huge reaction for Undertaker.

Eddie Guerrero beat Paul London with a Sharpshooter. After the match, Rey Mysterio came out with a chair and went after Eddie. They brawled to the back. London got some offense in, but not a lot.

After a long delay, where nothing happened, Guerrero was chased back to the ring by Rey. Rey laid out Eddie with a chair to the head. He then got pulled off Eddie by the refs. Sounds like they were doing some kind of re-shoot of the angle from the previous match.

Eddie and Rey were shown on the Titantron fighting in the back. They were separated by an electric gate or fence so they couldn't get at each other.

They did a backstage skit where the Cabinet teased dissention. The Bashams then quit the cabinet.

In Carlito's Cabana, Carlito interviewed Booker T and Sharmell. Carlito said that Sharmell could get drafted to Raw, which would hurt their marriage. Booker then attacked Carlito. Sharmell and Booker threw apples at Carlito.

SMACKDOWN SPOILERS FROM HERSHEY, PA, INCLUDING THE NEXT SMACKDOWN DRAFT PICK AND THE ECW PPV FOLLOW UP

by Dave Scherer @ 9:51:00 PM on 6/14/2005

My old pal LBS is at tonight's Smackdown taping in Hershey, PA and called in the following results.

Big Show beat Matt Morgan by DQ when Carlito hit Show with a chair. Morgan tried to put Show through the announcer's table, but couldn't do it. Show then put Morgan through the table.

Orlando Jordan, by himself, pinned Bob Holly using the ropes for leverage, to retain the US Title.

Heidenreich came out to the ring. He did a poetry reading. The Divas came out and interrupted him. Then MNM came out. Melina shot on the Divas. Melina got into it with one of the Divas. Heidenreich tried to pull them apart and was laid out by MNM.

JBL came to the ring with Orlando for his match with Taker. Before the match, Chris Benoit came down to the ring and brawled to the back with Orlando, leaving JBL alone. Taker and JBL brawled all around the building. JBL was on the offensive for a while, choking Taker with electrical tape. Taker came back and was about to win with a tombstone when Randy Orton ran down and hit the RKO on Taker. JBL then got the pin.

Randy Orton then took the mic and ran down The Undertaker on the mic, and then announced he was the draft pick and was coming to Smackdown.

After the taping ended, JBL and Orlando came out and beat on Undertaker. Benoit came down and the four began fighting. The faces got the upper hand and laid out the faces.

If there was any follow up of the ECW PPV, it will have to be in vignettes. All we got tonight was JBL's lame promo.

WP -- Hmm, looks like Taker and Benoit are buddying up. Interesting.

That's exactly what I thought too. HHH would probably LOVE to put Cena in his place. This is a prime opportunity to do so.

The interaction on Raw this week leads me to believe Triple H will stick around on Raw, leaving Batista to go onto Smackdown with the World Title.

I'm not sure if they will rush a HHH/Cena match at Summer Slam, and I dont think they should. Build that match to Survivor Series.

What to do with Triple H for Summer Slam in the time being? Stick him with Angle?

Cena. That's what they will do. It will either happen at Summerslam or Wrestlemania, and I don't see them running a "Cena wins the title!" storyline again a year after the first time around at Mania.

Yeah I'm not sure why people think HHH is winning at HIAC. I recall hearing months ago the idea was to have Cena and Batista essentially switch shows with the titles. Thus HHH can then feud with Cena and humiliate him, while Batista can dick around on SMDN for a while with JBL. Basically the draft lottery is merely the excuse to keep the same stale assholes on top.

I don't get this UT/Orton stuff. The way they are setting it up calls for Orton to get his ass kicked, yet he badly needs the win vs. UT.

I'm going to say it right now, If they do Batista/JBL, they MUST give us Benoit/Undertaker @ Summer Slam.

I'm guessing

Cena/HHH-WWE Title

Batista/JBL-World Title

Benoit/Undertaker

Rey/Eddy blow-off

and some mixture of Angle/Benjamin/Shawn/Jericho/Christian...

You know... now that Angle is on Raw, they GOTTA give us a Shelton/Angle feud.

Thats what i was hoping for.

Angle/Benjamin

Shawn/Christian(the promos would be fun)

Jericho...well send him to Smackdown after Vengence(if memory serves, they have 2 picks after vengence)...and stick him somewhere...

Carlito?

Now that he lost at Wrestlemania, I don't really care. I don't think Taker should be doing jobs to Orton, but we all know who won the one the counts.

Lets just say I'm not that excited about this pick. I usually like to keep all the 'talent' that turn me off the product (Orton, Masters, Viscera, Grenier, Dean, Maven, Lita, Christy) all on one show. On the bright side, Orton is at least with the better workers (Benoit, Guerrero, Rey, London) so at least his matches won't be terrible, no matter how much he annoys me.

BTW, what does the Orton pick do to the suggestions that ECW is taking over Smackdown?

I hope that the Bashams really did quit the Cabinet for good. I have a feeling that they're going to be split up by the draft.

I have a feeling they are going approach this as a "let's see who we get first before opening talks for trades"...

They also need to split Le Rez up and send Conway to Smackdown and Dupree back with Grenier.

Yes, but wouldn't it be advantageous for a brand to try to shore up their rosters via trading? Vince opened up the window for an entire month for this to happen. Why did Teddy Long resign to the belief that the title situation would be fixed after the draft? Why isn't he actively pursuing one of the two champions now? In the unlikely scenario that the World champ isn't drafted to Smackdown, this means Smackdown has no top level title to speak of. I don't see why Teddy is allowing that risk in kayfabe.

Since Mysterio/Guerrero has gone on for so long, I'm betting at GAB or Summerslam, the two have an ironman match. I would say 'best of' series but Mysterio has beaten Eddie every match they have, it would only be reasonable and logical for them to have the ironman and give Guerrero the win

In honor of Rey, they'll go 619 minutes.

Because at the time of his announcement, there were four more draft picks to be made, meaning there was a chance he could get a champion on his show without having to give up ANYBODY to Raw via a trade. It's a gamble, but it's at least plausible.

As for the bit about Raw getting Angle and Cena, while Smackdown gets Benoit and Orton, consider this: You called Benoit a midcarder, but after Monday night, it certainly seems like Cena got back-burnered just as much as Benoit has, only difference is that Cena has the bling equivalent of the I-C belt. As for Angle vs. Orton, on the surface, it's no comparison. Then again, Angle wrestles actual matches maybe once a month (with a lot of worthless "Olympic gold medal challenges" to keep him in the mix), while Orton, once he comes back in the next couple months, will be a via commodity who can wrestle on a weekly basis. Plus, on Smackdown, he'll be an instant main eventer.

A big gamble. Any good GM wouldn't make that gamble. There's maybe 20-30 people on Raw and now, 3 picks left to be made. Can you realistically tell me that the odds of the World Champion being drafted are good enough to allow said gamble? No.

I'm not saying that they won't put the World Champion on Smackdown, but in kayfabe I don't see how Long could be comfortable with this situation. If I was the GM, I'd be on the phone right now either trying to get Cena back or setting up a post-Vengeance trade for the winner of HHH/Batista, because hey, if I get the champion for free without using a pick on him, I could get someone else real good like a Shelton or a Jericho.
