Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 I could not believe this. Earlier today ESPNEWS was keeping people updated on Derrick Lee's chase for batting .400. Why place a big deal on this when it is not even July?

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 Because this baseball season hasn't really been very exciting yet and they need something to do?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 Might as well get some mileage out of it now. Lee would have to hit BETTER than he's hitting now to reach .400, and even the most ardent Cubs supporters likely don't expect that to happen. Except the Superfans of course. Bored 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 What would the score be of a game of minature Derrek Lee clones vs. the '27 Yankees? Mini Lees 114, '27 Yankees -3.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 I thought he was in persuit of the triple crown at ESPN. Acting like he has even the slimmest of chances at .400 is just silly.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 I think he's got a shot at winning batting average, but the other two will be tough. Even with all the power, he's still getting a lot of singles to keep that average nice and fat. He'll smash his previous careers highs to hell, though. Coming into this season, 29 homers and 98 RBIs were his career highs. He's seven and 34 behind those numbers and it's not even July.

No matter what I feel that they are jumping the gun. Wait until later July then we will know if the chase is legit.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 Fuck, I say you wait til Sept. 1 to actually start HYPING a .400 chase, unless a dude is hitting like .450 and already has it near locked up. Anyone hovering between .370 and .400 has NOTHING done in June as far as that milestone is concerned. The two closest guys to .400 I can remember were Olerud and Gwynn, and their hype began around the all-star break, and by mid Sept. they were pretty much out of contention for it. I still believe we'll see a .400 hitter some day, hopefully while I'm still around, but it's not happening this season, and it won't be Derrek Lee.
