Changing the direction of a network

We all know about MTV switching from musical content to whatever it likes to be called today while showing the minimum amount of actual MUSIC as possible. The best shot at music is the late-late night shift and early morning spots. MTV2, a channel that once promised to return to full out music has turned into the Jackass/Viva La Bam channel. Thankfully mtv has MTVHITS where it churns out actual music videos, albeit all of the pop genre but at least it’s based around musical videos. If you want actual music content, FUSE is your station.

The point of this, what other channels over the years have altered the intention of it’s network. VH1 is another example and ironically enough, a chapter of MTV. Many point out to ESPN, however it hasn’t started to deviate from sport content completely, although it treads the line with constant poker and outdoor sporting events, not to mention the spelling bee and scrabble tournaments

I just was curious about changes to networks and channels, I never noticed and why they did it. Im talking about the changes in promotion, the changes in content and such like TNN going from southern based network to “Man” channel.

TNN went to"Man" content when Viacom bought the channel. IMF is a godd channel that only shows music to.

I really don't understand the FUSE being a great music channel stuff, the few times I've turned to it looking for music it's been that horrid TRL rip-off, anti-MTV commercials and some bad shout-out show.

I think Nickelodeon kind of fits, as they went from going hard at young kids to aiming more at the tweener demo. It's still all catering to kids but they definitely seemed to of re-focused themselves.

Cartoon Network seems to be catering more and more towards adults. Though most of those "adult" cartoons completely suck. Bring on the classics! I want to see Elmer shoot Daffy's beak off, dammit!

(Oh yeah, I'm catching hell for that)

Discovery went from the shark to biker channel.

VH1 went from playing 80's soft rock videos to the celebrity rumor channel.

CNN went from national security fear channel to missing teen updates.

FX started out as "Made Fresh Daily" network with nonstop reruns of superhero sitcoms to award winning drama network.

GSN is the worst perpetrator of this, probobly because they've gone through more then half a dozen station managers over the years. Sometimes The schedule will be almost exclusively their shitty GSN originals, dating shows, and Re-Runs of modern game shows like Hollywood Squares and shitty reality shows which aren't even game shows. The classic stuff like Family Feud, Match Game, and other shows which used to be staples of the channel get relegated to the early morning slot. Other times it seems like they increase the classic game shows take up a majority of the schedule, and the crap gets relegated to the prime time slots. Currently, it seems GSN has a combination of the two. Old game shows are seen in the early morning and on weekends, while the Dating shows, Millionaire Reruns, and Relaity Shows are on in the weekend afternoons and prime time slots. I do miss the old GSN though where it was nothing but the old Goodson Toddman shows.
