Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Dude I knew about John Wooden before you mentioned it. And then there's Zona in softball and basketball too. And I know they have baseball tradition too. And Stanford and all of those other sports that they're good at over history......
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Tennessee doesn't really strike me as an all time amazing program, but more of a really solid SEC team. I don't think of them any better than Florida really, or Georgia, and old school Bama is easily better all time. Has Tenn. won a national title besides the one in 1998? I don't think of them any better than Florida really, or Georgia, and old school Bama is easily better all time. Has Tenn. won a national title besides the one in 1998? 1951 was their last title, second under Neyland if you count the 1938 undefeated season. In the SEC for best all-time programs, you'd probably have to rank Bama 1st. Florida is tough to rank as they were a perennial underachiever until Spurrier arrived. I'd say that Tennessee and Georgia are about the same, both have a couple of national titles and numerous conference titles. LSU and Auburn are up there too. I'd rank them like this: 1. Alabama 2. Georgia 3. Tennessee/LSU 5. Auburn 6. Florida
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 So does Oklahoma rank ahead of Nebraska and Texas in the Big 8/Big XII lore or does Nebraska still get the nod if you're looking back to the Big 8? I mean if you're just counting the Big XII days OU is easily the best but looking back...
Secret Agent 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Nebraska didn't become a push over until after the 2000 season. They do have a history of being a top program in times past... just like Notre Dame

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Wow the season gets under way on Thursday. Something I love about CFB is doesn't have a huge build up like alot of the other major sports. I'll take Miami to block Alex.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Dama, speaking of Texas what do you think of Vince Young? Personally I think Michigan made him look way better than he really is...either that or he improved 10x from that OU fiasco last year. It's really hard to compare college football programs all time because there's no legit national title and sometimes teams don't play each other. Whereas when you consider college basketball the discussion is a lot easier.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Dama thinks Vince Young is God's Gift to Women.
Secret Agent 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 I don't think Texas looked that great against Michigan. Texas only won by a last second field goal... and if we're going off that game it shows that Texas is expecting Young to carry the whole damn team.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 I think Vince Young is an incredible athlete but I don't know if he can throw yet. Everyone calls Reggie McNeal at Texas A&M a poor-man's Vince Young but he can throw the ball 10x better than Young. I think that if you let him get going he can do things with his legs that will make your jaw drop and make you think of the things that Vick does with his legs. However his passing game needs help. He threw for 14 TDs and 12 INTs last year. He needs to learn to pass which Texas claims he's gotten worlds better at. Then again to my knowledge Texas claims this every year. But his throws were pretty good against Michigan. However he has to be a passing QB to beat OU. They will put 8 men in the box to stop him. The last few years they put 8 men in to stop him and Benson and now they don't have Benson to worry about. Selvin Young is good but he's played against OU before and they had his number much like they have Benson's. Vince Young has to pass to beat OU b/c he won't be able to run against them. They will take it away from him. Hell OU usually has the number of most of the good Texas players the worst being Chris Simms who we just smacked around relentlessly. However Major Applewhite had OU's number.....they need another QB like that. Oh and another thing. I think Texas will be hurt by the loss of Benson more than people are thinking. Texas was 16-0 when Benson rushed for over 100 yards.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 Dama thinks Vince Young is God's Gift to Women. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vince Young is one of the ugliest people alive. Seriously he looks like a squashed frog. The thing is that Texas also has a good defense. Even though they lost Derrick Johnson they still return the rest of the defense and Johnson was a non-factor against Michigan. I think they'll still lose to OU b/c it's become a mental thing at this point and they've been more talented than us in the past and still gotten whipped. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 I see alot of teams that have failed when they've had high pre-season rankings. Texas hasn't won since 1969. Ohio St, Michigan, LSU, Tennesse have won Championships in the last decade but all did so when they weren't expected to.

teke184 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 I think he meant the title, not the game, though Im sure LSU wasn't expected to win either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think that's exactly what he means. In 1996, Michigan was in the midst of a downturn and no one took them seriously. They went undefeated and got a share of the title. In 1998, everyone assumed Tennessee was just going to get rolled over and fucked by Florida as usual, since Peyton was in the NFL. In 2002, everyone said "Ohio State? They'll fucking choke against Michigan or Miami." They didn't. In 2003, LSU got no respect for most of the year despite beating down Georgia and several other teams. No one really watched them play until they beat Georgia in a rematch in the SEC title game then when they beat Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 Thanks teke. OU is slight different than the other teams. Their letdown game has occured during what you'd call postseason play. The others National championship hopes are dashed during the regular season.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 If only the deep snapper hadn't messed that snap up.....we would've won 13-0! I found it ironic that OU harassed and pounded Heisman trophy winner Chris Weinke while FSU was a 10 point fav(i believe) and nobody respected OU even though they were undefeated and FSU had one loss. Fast forward to 2003 and LSU harrassed and pounded Heisman trophy winner Jason White while OU was a 10 point fav despite the fact that they lost their conference title game. Weird parallel.... therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 Myron Rolle, one of the top prospects in the country from up near Princeton, New Jersey is set to make his decision for next fall on Thursday. Top schools include Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Oklahoma. If PSU gets him, they're likely to bring in a great recruiting class for 2006. And I laugh at Rutgers for not even being able to be on his top 8 schools, even though they're about 20 minutes away from his high school...
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 Well why should Rutgers get him? They suck. And if he's one of the top prospects in the nation, of course he's going to a top level school.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 Listening to my friends that go to RU, you'd think they were doing something other than going 4-7 and losing to D-IAA teams. It just shows how bad that school is when they can't keep any prospects from staying instate. Penn State kicks their ass all the time when recruiting South Jersey, and Virginia is doing a number on them now, pulling Wali Lundy out of Delran among others. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 I heard that he has it down to Florida and OU. And he said that Urban Meyer tries to hard to be Bob Stoops. His brothers want him to go to Florida but his dad is a HUGE OU fan.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2005 Of the schools mentioned, personally I'd have picked OU, since I know I'd come in with a good coach and a winning tradition. However would their offense fit my talents is an entirely different question...
