Ok Now I'm In South Florida

Ok, I'm down here indefinitely. I thought I was going to hate it because of the hot weather, but I'm very happy at the amount of storms. Being a curmudgeon as well as a sadist has it's advantages here as I've gotten to see plenty of people's days weekends being ruined by rain thus far. I only hope the trend continues year round.

At any rate, what foods are associated here? I see a lot of black demon geese with red and purple beaks, but I don't think they're edible. Provided they even exist. It's sort of like going to an advanced level of a Nintendo 8-bit game, where the same enemies have been recycled, except far more vicious in a spookier color scheme.

And....uh. Oh yes! So what's good to eat around here?

P.S. I thought I was going to miss NY, as eastern bloc jews breed the most GORGEOUS women I've ever seen in my entire life. I'm glad to see they migrated somewhat down here. Not a big fan of the mama citas. Button noses and afros aren't my thing, spanish women look a lot better in music videos than in real life.

Fun fact: University of South Florida is, in fact, nowhere near South Florida. That's in Tampa, I believe, which is described as the Gulf Coast region.

Where in South Florida are you Angora? Miami is a pretty different spot from the rest of the region.. some would say pretty much the rest of the country. There's tons of good food here though, but most of it comes in the form of Latin American foods. Miami Beach has a shitload of great places for pizza (I like Pizza Rustica myself, or just walking around and trying any random one that looks good and of course sanitary.. Rustica is on Washington Ave. and around 6th-7th St., I believe) and hamburgers (Go to Cheeseburger Baby for that, also on Washington Ave., but around 15th St. or so). I'd be able to get more of an idea of what to recommend once you tell me where you are and what kind of food you're looking to try here.

I'm in Plantation which, to my understanding, is to Ft. Lauderdale what Yonkers is to New York (see: Trashy Shit Hole).

I'll still be checking out both Ft. Lauderdale and Miami though.

UPDATE: STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM CICI'S PIZZA. Do you like RICE CRACKERS AND PREGO??

Cici's fucking rocks, dude. All-you-can-eat pizza for 3.99$.

I'm less familiar with the East Coast as someone who actually lives there (VX), but if you're in Lauderdale or Miami, check out the local digs for food. I learned when I moved down here a few years ago that the local hole-in-the-wall places make excellent Mexican/Cuban food. Not so much for pizza, I stick to the chains (Domino's).

Since you're in Miami, check out a Marlins game. If you come over to my side, don't check out a Devil-Rays game.

EDIT: Yes, VX. University of South Florida is located in Tampa, on the west side in the center of the state. It should be called UCF for University of CENTRAL Florida or something.

This is EXTREMELY true. Also agreed with the "try to stick to the big chains" theory, except when in Miami Beach. There are a bunch of great restaurants on Lincoln Road as well.. South Beach also has this nightclub/restaurant/lounge thing called B.E.D., which I believe is on 5th and Washington, where the seating arrangement are actually beds and they bring you your food in bed. Good eating too, and there's these canopy dealies you can use to get some privacy, if you're into that sort of thing.

Few places to check out.. I strongly recommend picking up an authentic Cuban sandwich at Latin American Cafeteria. Tricky thing is, finding the actual place, and tehre's a ton of imitators that have very similar names to fool customers into thinking what they're getting is the real thing, but it's not. To my recollection, the best one is located on Miracle Mile (Coral Way/SW 24th St.) in Miami. Also, I've got to highly recommend Cuban Italian food.. Some of the best spaghetti you'll ever try, and pizza with hispanic toppings (if you really want to try something different, get one with half chorizo which is a spicy shredded Spanish sausage, and half plantains), I recommend Montes De Oca on NW 7th St and NW 45th Ave. As with anywhere in Miami, you might have a bit of difficulty finding someone that speaks English well enough to help you out, but I'm sure the language barrier can be overcome somehow.. I'll also recommend the Versailles bakery on SW 8th St (Calle Ocho) in Little Havana for all kinds of Cuban pastries.. Oh, and of course the best place for overall Cuban cuisine would be La Carreta, there's a 24 hour one on SW 8th St and just off of 37th Ave. There's others around, but I like that one the best.. not just because it's 24 hours, either.

You'll find Miami to be a VERY different environment from Plantation/Broward County in general. Broward is more like the rest of Florida.. Miami is basically its own little country. For shopping/recreation, up there there's a mall called Sunrise Mall I think, which has a few places to check out eating-wise, and there's also Aventura Mall which is in North Miami, and heading further down into downtown, right next to American Airlines Arena there's a good Cuban restaurant there called Bongos, and right next to that is the Bayside Marketplace, where there's some other good restaurants like the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and such.

I think that's enough recommendations for now.

EDIT: Yes, VX. University of South Florida is located in Tampa, on the west side in the center of the state. It should be called UCF for University of CENTRAL Florida or something.

There already is a UCF- University of Central Florida... which is in Orlando, which is actually a bit more towards the north. But there's already a University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville. If I recall correctly, I think that Inc goes there.
