Phantom of the Opera

Recommended Posts

I have to admit, I just figured this would a hollywooded out version that would suck ass, but I bought it the other day for 4 bucks and it was damn good. I was suprised. Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, and Minnie Driver all suprised me with how good their voices were and they did a damn good job staying true to the stage play. and Jennifer Ellisons boobs popping out of those corsetts didn't hurt matters either.

Alot of people shitted on it because they will shit on any production of Phantom that doesn't have Sarah Brightman as Christine, but I love them both.

So yeah...it kicked ass and stuff.

It wasn't Minnie Driver's voice. Supposedly there's only like a handful of people in the world who can sing that role, so they dubbed her.

I thought the movie was alright. I was really suprised that Joel Schumacher turned out a pretty good directing job. The production design was awesome as well. Actually Gerard Butler's voice was pretty weak for a lot of parts, but he had his moments and he acted the part pretty damn well, so it's forgiven. There were a few changes to the play that were kind of iritating, but I just found myself bored by the end, which I guess is a fault of the source material itself. It's weird, because I saw the show in London and when it was touring in Canada and was blown away both times. I think Andrew Lloyd Webber stuff just can't be put to film, cause I felt the same way about Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar. Great material, but those were shitty movies (Phantom was much better).

But yeah, the blond with the rack was smokin'

I meant Minnies voice on Learn to be Lonely. That was her. I had no idea she could sing at all.

And yeah, Gerald has his weaker moments when singing, but his ANGRY Phantom singing was definately on point to me. I was disappointed that they should have had better chorography for the fan dance during Masquerade. It looked a little disjointed at times. There is no reason that those in the stage play should have had it tighter than the ones in the movie when they can actually cut and do it again.

Wasn't that the scene that was composed of 50% extras and 50% mannequins? Could explain the lack of dexterity in the choreography…

I didn't care for it too much. Granted, it was better than Dario Argento's take on the Phantom of the Opera (This is coming from a huge Dario Argento fan,BTW) but it still wan't that good.

I am sorry but I could video myself taking a crap and it would be better than Argento's Phantom of the Opera. Goddamn that was horrible.
