Ok I've been having this weird problem lately, basically the problem is that I can't always access some websites.

Like for example when I turn on my computer and open up my web browser, if I go to The Smart Marks site first, it will work, but if I try going on another site after that, it doesn't work.

Say I try to go to Yahoo, if I type in www.yahoo.com the bottom of the Firefox toolbar will say "looking for www.yahoo.com", and after like 15 seconds something will pop up and say "www.yahoo.com could not be found, please check the name and try again." If I'm on Internet Explorer, I'll just get the "Cannot Find Server" page. This goes on for a while, not letting me on any sites, eventually after a while it starts letting me on a few, but it's always a struggle to get on a different website. Because each time it does the "looking up blah blah blah" thing, and I have to wait a while before it ever lets me on.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this and how to fix it?

If you're on dial-up, I would try disconnecting and then re-connecting to the Internet.

Although you being able to access TSM and not being able to access other sites afterwards is confusing, so I'm not sure if I could help you there.

start--->run...--->type 'cmd', hit enter

type 'tracert <website address>', so if yahoo doesn't work you type 'tracert www.yahoo.com' and hit enter

now the program will trace the route to the desired website. if it times out straight away then something is probably wrong on your end. try reinstalling your network/modem drivers and, if it still doesn't work, the tcp/ip protocol. if you don't know how to do any of this read up on google or find somebody who can.

if the trace gets outside and through some routers, but times out somewhere along the way I'd call your ISP and try to figure out the problem with their help.

I've been having this problem too. I just restart the computer and everything works again for a little while, but obviously this becomes a pain in the ass. Did IBM's advice work? Could Loaded Glove fix it?

Try going to this forum - http://www.pchelpforum.com/component/optio...d,80/board,20.0 (if you don't have a wireless connection just find the forum that suits whatever you have)

Basically when I went there they seemed to come to the conclusion that the problem I had was that I had a trojan horse virus that was somehow blocking attempts at connecting to websites, so go over there and tell them what's going on with your computer and they'll probably be able to help you out. It was kind of a long and detailed process to get it all fixed, and I have no idea how to explain it.
