1. SHOULD PROSTITUTION BE LEGALIZED?

I say yes, prostitution is the oldest profession and there will always be a market for sex. By legalizing it it can be safer as the prostitutes would have to be tested for HIV and STD's, they wouldn't have to be out in the streets harassing individuals, causing blight and so forth. They could work out of brothels in locations where the general public wouldn't be forced to interact with them and the government could make more money through taxes that they can fining the hookers and johns.

2. SHOULD DRUGS BE LEGALIZED?

I say yes, at least natural drugs like marijuana, peyote, shrooms and so forth. If the gateway drug - alcohol is legal then why not drugs that are no harder than it be? I think they should be sold like alcohol to those 21+. I don't think that legalizing drugs will add to the epidemic of drug abusers, the same people will use drugs legal or not. Legalizing drugs won't encourage a clear-headed person to use them.

3. DID GARY CONDIT KILL CHENDRA LEVY?

Being from "Condit country" I couldn't escape the story of the missing intern and the congressman. I personaly don't think he did it but it looks like her body may have been found and the story may be solved at last.

EDIT: The link to the washington post article that I tried to post doesn't seem to work. Also the title of this thread should have read Quick takes III.

Absolutely it should be legalized. I've never used a hooker myself (I've never even SEEN a hooker outside of HBO specials), but it does seem like a victimless crime. The woman makes money and the guy gets what he wants. As George Carlin once said, there are far worse things you can give a guy than an orgasm.

I don't support this mainly because I don't really see a benefit to legalizing them. Alcohol caused lots of gang-related deaths during prohibition. While legalizing has ended those deaths, alcohol itself has caused many times MORE deaths ever since.

Well, being not from Condit country, I could not conceivably care less. It's just like the OJ trial, except less---no, OJ wasn't that interesting, either.

It IS just like OJ.

1. SHOULD PROSTITUTION BE LEGALIZED?

I guess.  It really couldn't hurt anything.  I know I would never use one, but if that floats your boat, more power to ya.  And I agree that by being legal and regulated it would make it cleaner, reducing things like HIV and other STD's.

2. SHOULD DRUGS BE LEGALIZED?

I feel that marijuana should definately be made legal, as well as hemp.  I think that alcohol causes more problems then weed does.  At least we should reform the laws to make smoking pot ok in the privacy of your own home.  I guess I take a more Libertarian stance on this one, if it doesn't hurt me in any way, then it doesn't bother me.  I also think that by leagalizing it, it would help give this country a good economic boost as well.  As for other hard drugs, no.  Those should stay illegal.

3. DID GARY CONDIT KILL CHENDRA LEVY?

I didn't follow this at all.  But, if Condit is found out to be at least involved it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

That's BS.

3. DID GARY CONDIT KILL CHENDRA LEVY?

Indirectly, yes.

Okay, about the Condit/Leavy thing, what about the string of women Leavy's age from that neighborhood she lived in.  Condit pointed this out, but hardly anyone said a word about it.  I'm not surprised.

1. Yes, I don't knock a hustle do what you got to do. I feel its harmless. The ho makes her money and the trick get his off. I seen hookers on the corners and most of them i've seen are horrible looking and I would never pay for one, but if some guy looking for a good time wants to pick one up I could care less.

2. Yes, If the government wasn't getting paid under the table drugs would be legalized. I feel that as person you should have a right to do whatever you want to do with your body. If this society didn't have such a taboo on drugs and just legalized it there wouldn't be a high drug use because the thrill of getting caught would be eliminated.

3. I don't care about Condit/Levy thing (Not from Cali), I think Bill Mahr was right about people not caring about this case or the Blake case because those chicks don't look attractive, and only reason why OJ trial was so huge because the girl he killed looked pretty good and he was a football hero.

1. Brothels should be legal; street prostitution not. Imagine if you had hookers outside your front door?

Brothels, however, are harmless.

2. Drugs should absolutely not be legalised.

3. Did he kill Levy? No one here has the right to say yes or no, as we don't know the facts.

1. In many jurdictions prostitution is not illegal anyways.  Pandering and solicitation are.   Legalize it, regulate it, tax it.  You are never going to eliminate it.

2. No.  If only because stoners annoy the hell out of me.

3. I dunno.  Can't really say that I get all worked up pondering over it either.

1. Yes.  As George Carlin has said, "Selling is legal.  Fucking is legal.  Why is selling fucking illegal?"  I think he also made a point that you can pay to watch other people have sex on videotape, and even pay others to have sex while you tape them, but you can't pay someone just to have sex with you.  It's ridiculous.  Legalize it, and use the Vegas model.

2. Yes.  It's not the government's job to protect people from their vices.

3. Who cares?  I think he probably did (though it's doubtful he did the deed himself), but since he's rich and relatively famous, nothing will happen to him because of it.

1) Yes, but only whore houses not street Pros

2) Yes, it would provide cleaner and safer drugs for addicts and take away a little bit of the mistique.

3)  i doubt it, they found her body in DC very close to her house, she was probably raped and killed by a mugger.  But the fiasco did get a Democrat out of Congress, which is always a good thing.

nitce all the stoners want marijuana to be legalized, the shit is not gonna happen.  Thats all we need is for everyone to walk around dumfounded with the munchies, for regular people it would be a nooying just going out in public and interacting with those losers.

I know alot people who smoke weed and function well, can hold down a job, and they're college educated like myself (Haven't smoke it in 3 months though.) Hell our presidents smoke some back in the day. I don't know why people are so against weed because getting high is relaxing (as long it isn't a everyday thing.) So don't knock it until you try it. It's safe to say the government lost the war on drugs and might as well legalize it.

Thats why I made the suggestion that it should be regulated like alcohol, public intoxication would still be illegal. People could go to marijuana bars or smoke in private and the general public wouldn't be affected by it.

I am hearing more about a possible serial killer in D.C. john walsh from America's Most Wanted was on the Today show and was talking that there are two other girls that lived near Chandra Levy, were both well educated like Chandra, and had the same physical profile. He made an interesting point that the only reason we know about this unsolved murder is because she had an extra marital affair with a congressmen and he lied about it. I think that this is a more likely scenario then Condit.

Christ, you type like you're stoned.

I'm for the legalization of all drugs, not just marijuana, and I'm not even a casual drug user.  Alcohol is the only drug I really ingest, and even that's not too often.  I never saw the appeal of pot, so I've never tried it.  My position on drugs is that it is not the government's job to protect someone from their vices, and what people do in the privacy of their own homes should be their own business, so long as no one else is harmed in the process.

Plus if they were to legalize it, they could just tax the hell out of it, talk about a new cash crop. Im guessing that could help out with helping with school spending and other important issues.

Um, ALL drugs? That's a bit much. I don't think legalizing pot is a terribly good idea as I don't see any positive benefit in so doing---but legalizing ALL drugs is, flat out, a terrible idea. Legalizing heroin, cocaine, et al will only make the U.S a filthy (okay, filthier) country with an ever-increasing collection of people strung out and unable to contribute to society.

For someone who seems to love America so much, you have remarkably little faith in its citizens.  I don't think making drugs legal would create a nation of addicts.  After the government takes its taxes (the bulk of which should go toward drug eduction and rehab programs), the drugs would probably cost the same.  Besides, people have a tendency to do things that are taboo or verboten in some way, and making drugs legal would remove the renegade appeal they have.  I don't think we'd see a marked increase in addictions, but with better education and rehab programs, we'd be better able to respond to any problems that did arise.

I still maintain it is not the government's job to prevent me from harming myself if that is what I freely choose to do.

"I strongly admire your apathy."

Thanks, but I do have reasons for my indifference.

1) I have a girlfriend, so I don't need to go out and get "it."

2) I don't do drugs, so I don't need to go out and smoke/inject,etc "it."

3) I hate media circus-like events, so I don't need to turn on the TV and watch "it."

1. SHOULD PROSTITUTION BE LEGALIZED?

Well hell porn is basically like prostitution. That is legal.

As for making it legal. Maybe if they gave away free samples like they do in the supermarket or had a buy 1 get one free deal. I'd seriously consider voting on it if they ever decided too. Then we could do that whole double coupon thing.

2. SHOULD DRUGS BE LEGALIZED?

Weed is Legal not technically though. Hell seems like everyone does the wacky weed. From Sports Atheletes,Movie Actors,Presidents etc. Heck seems like all great musicians smoke the wacky weed.

As for the harder drugs um I don't think so. Their be too many problems.

3. DID GARY CONDIT KILL CHENDRA LEVY?

Well I don't know. Didn't he drive real far to throw away a watch box? WTF? Maybe he forgot his gun in the resturant.I can't believe that Blake dude was a rascal. But if he did it he should be locked up in Jail like Oj Simpson was.
