TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Here's an interesting thing I got from the WO mailbag: Gurminder Mann If TNA produces two first-run TV shows for Spike, as you suggested in this week's issue, I think it's a mistake. It would just mean more angles and more storylines for the average fan to keep track of. And when they lose track, they lose interest. It's the same reason I disagree with you that angles should be shot at WWE house shows to make them seem important. All it does is clutter storylines, and wrestling desperately needs to go back to being simple. I think the best option is to replay the Saturday show on Mondays, but instead of hyping the Sunday PPV (which would have already taken place), hype the replay showing of the PPV. Or, TNA could consider using the Monday slot to air some of the best matches in company history, each and every week. They've got 3 years of shows and dozens of classic matches. Rather than have them become forgotten, why not air a "from the vault" type of show to help get over their wrestlers? In between shows, you could recap the Saturday show. I just know that I'm long past asleep come Mondays at midnight, as is everyone I know. I'd hate for all the bumps those guys took for 3 years to mean nothing and only be seen by a tiny audience. I also think WWE should produce a similar type of show, at least until 24/7 is more widely distributed. Both companies are missing the boat if they let all their old tapes sit and collect dust. I've read many articles of old chemical companies who had all these old patents sitting around. They one day decided to license them out, and generated millions in revenue off something that cost no money to produce. It started a whole new billion dollar trend in what is now known in business circles as knowledge management. Wrestling should learn from this. I think naming the show "Saturday Night Impact" may not be the best idea. The ultimate goal should be to get the show a Monday 9pm time slot some day, so associating it with Saturdays could work against them. No one has brought up yet that TNA and WWE will be going head to head once WWE gets their Saturday Night's Main Event specials on NBC. We've now got the Saturday Night Wars. I wonder if WWE gets to keep the ad revenue from the SNME shows on NBC. Also, I hope much of the UFC audience carries over to TNA, only because Spike can argue the audiences are similar and thus charge more than usual for ads. They key thing TNA has to do is knock it off with the run-ins, DQs, false finishes, interference, and anything resembling WWE. Every time they do that, they look like amateur hour and just another WWE copycat. Just do 100% clean finishes. And please no Shark Boy on the Spike debut. If he's the first guy people see on the show, it's over for them because he looks so indie. Jeff Gagliardo DM: Two hours of weekly television would be beneficial when it comes to angles. The company is going to do the same series of angles to get over its PPV matches with one show as two. The problem is, and you can already see it, they have far too much they need to accomplish for 60 minutes per week, so it's overloaded and becomes numbing. Two shows will allow them to be able to feature more people, and have more sink in because it's not shoe-horned in. I have always said that I would like to see TNA get a second hour of first run shows one way or another, even if they had to beef up the synidicated network and use Xplosion, but I gotta say that this guys idea about using it as a Best Of sort of deal with plugs for Impact isn't too bad either. That might be the best way to hook channel surfers. They tuned in a see, say the UX from Final Resolution, and after the match, they see JB and Shane saying what AJ, Petey and Sabin are up to for that Saturday's Impact. That could certainly work. And if they do choose to replay Impact in the slot, then they should definitely do new commentary reflecting hyping the replay of the PPV, even if it's a post-produced hard sell from DW after the conclusion of the show. I hadn't even thought of the SNME/Impact head to head. If IIRC, they'll only be head to head for a half hour (I think the SNME will start at 11:30), but I think how TNA fares there will go a long way toward determining the feasibility of them going head to head on Monday in Spike's eyes. RedJed 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 So SNME will air in lieu of Saturday Night Live a few times a year? Doesn't sound right to me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats how it was done before back in the 80s/early 90s with SNME. They gave SNL a break once in awhile for the SNME show - usually when there were off weeks such as a Thanksgiving weekend, etc. As far as the topic at hand, I like the idea of a Best of show, but ONLY the day after the ppvs. Otherwise, until they are established, Impact should be airing the Sat rebroadcast on Mondays to try to get more people interested in the current product and main angles/storylines as much as possible. The current timeslot for the Monday show is a hard pill to swallow in terms of producing another hour of first run content because its rather late. If they would jump the show down a few hours earlier on Mondays, then I would suggest to them to definately tape another hour of new content for Mondays exclusively. I do think they still should really up their syndicated network and have Xplosion be all new content though, and they should do that ASAP. TNA should have at least 2 hours of all first run content, be it in whatever place, channel, time, etc. At this point, I think a second hour of first run content would be better in a large sydicated network of channels than a really late timeslot during a weekday like the Monday night one is currently. Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 The best of show idea could be a good one, if the roster hadnt changed so damn much in the last few years. If the recap show was used to hype Samoa Joe it would be a good concept, since it would sell fans on this unstoppable monster whos coming up the ranks. But if they did a histrory of the x division show there would be to many fans asking "whos Low Ki?".
