I'd rank the Pac-10 just below the ACC and SEC, by the way. Quite the underrated conference.

I don't care about the history of Big Ten scheduling practices. I'm just talking about which football teams are good right now.

Last year was a definite down year for the conference, and their bowl record was still 3-3, so saying that they're destined to do terrible in the bowl season makes no sense whatsoever.

The point was that the Big Ten is just as legitimate as most BCS conferences, (and much more so than the Big XII or Big East), so saying that they shouldn't have any teams ranked in the Top 20 (or Top 10 for that matter) is just silly.

Leave the Big XII out of this. They have at least one legit Top 10 team every year, usually 2 with OU and Texas, and they produce national champions in other sports as well.

It's a good football conference that is down right now. But it's nowhere near as bad as the Big East. Don't even try that.

I'd stick OU in the Sun Belt conference right now with the way they're playing ;)

They also have the fattest coach in the country...

Sorry, but he makes Phil Fulmer look like a fitness model compared to him...

No fattest coach discussion can be legitimate until it includes Maryland Ralph Friedgen. That's one fat dude.

I don't really know what more a team can do at this point in the season than be undefeated with wins over ranked teams. Penn State is top-10 material at this point, no question.

I hope therealworldschampion eventually tells us who the fat guy is that he's talking about up there.

I can't believe people are trying to slag on Tennessee, a team that played a #5/decent/#6 team schedule (winning two of the three) in 13 days. It probably had a lot to do with why they couldn't move the ball on the ground. The score wasn't even really indicative of the game itself. It was shaping up to be a pretty fucking great game worthy of two top ten teams until that punt return.

And even if they beat Alabama, it'll be because they got lucky or because Alabama played poorly. And if they beat Notre Dame, it'll be because Charlie Weis was distracted by a toothache or some bullshit. Georgia and Tennessee suffer from being great SEC teams that aren't named "Florida," so they get shit on. Sure, the analysts might give lip service to the notion of a Georgia national championship run, but their hog heaven would be USC and Texas in a 88-87 offensive orgy, with Matt Leinart and Vince Young leading an orgy in the middle of the field, and orgy to which Notre Dame, Florida State, and the entire Big Ten would also be invited.

Goddamn do I hate the media/public perceptions. They just never seem to give the Vols or Dawgs a fair shake outside of their local areas, no matter what. Alabama's gonna slaughter Tennessee, Florida will walk all over Georgia, blah blah blah.

And this venting happens because my favorite team allows their own crowd to psych them out whenever they play a big game at home. Knoxville isn't an unpleasant place, I don't know what gets into that team at home.

He's talking about Kansas' coach Mark Mangino:

I think Tennessee was just screwed with their schedule. Road games at Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, and South Bend, notoriously tough places to play. Georgia is a great team on the road, Mark Richt is now 17-2(?) in opposing stadiums. That's a fucking Murderer's Row of a schedule. Give them a Big XII schedule and they're undefeated.

On a side note, I hope Notre Dame and Tennessee do another home-and-home series in the future, that's a good matchup.

Texas is going to be left out if undefeated teams meet in the SEC or ACC title games. The Ohio State loss last night really hurt them.

Seeing Lou Holtz rip Mark May on the ESPN studio show is good for a laugh.

As a little history blurb, this coming Saturday is the 17th anniversary of Notre Dame's upset of #1 Miami in South Bend: October 15th.

Mark Mangino is so fat that he wears a sweater vest over a collared shirt and his nipples still poke through.

Big XII scheduling? What's that all about? They don't schedule any differently than any other team. Last year OU had to play OSU and A&M on the road back to back. And OSU was a rivalry game and A&M was not bad last year and they were at A&M.

And on top of that OU played Texas, KSU, and Nebraska all in a row in 2000 and all teams were in the Top 10 at the time OU played them!

And let's not forget that Texas went to tOSU this year.

So what's this Big XII scheduling crap? Yeah some of the Big XII scheduled cream puffs but other members of the Big XII scheduled decently and they have since the inception of the Big XII.

I really don't get the swing against the Big XII that exists here sometimes. If someone knew nothing about college football and read TSM they'd probably think the Big XII has never had a ranked team or a national champion.

The conference has just been in a downswing the past 2 years. Outside of Texas and Texas Tech, there's not really any good teams. Sure Colorado is ranked, but they get to feast on that shitty North division. Oklahoma is having a down year, Oklahoma State got worse, A&M is not very good, and Baylor is Baylor.

Texas should get a ton of credit for scheduling that home-and-home with OSU, and it's good to see OU doing it too (future games with Miami, Florida State, and Notre Dame).

Ok yeah the conference has been on a downswing lately. I will agree with that. But it's nowhere near as bad as the Big East and it isn't so bad that people have to treat it like it's a mid-major. It has been a good conference for a long time since it's creation.

Funny little thing. On an OU website the poll question is "Were you shocked at OU's 45-12 loss to Texas?"

and one of the choices is "Yes. I am always shocked when we don't bludgeon other teams to death with our football prowess."

I think that is the general feeling in Norman usually.

Eh, fat people in the midwest are excused. It gets fucking cold, man. Maryland's coach definitely wins, especially pre-weight loss.

Friedgen dropped weight?

Was it he, only 2 metric tons now?

5th best major conference.  ACC, SEC, Pac 10, and Big Ten are all better.

Yeah this year. But not in the past. People act like it was the worst in the past. Not true. It's always been one of the best it's just hit a downslide the past few years. Should regain it's form soon.

Oh and I still think it's funny that if you historically remove USC from the Pac 10 in football it becomes a mid-major.

the Big 8/Big 12 has been at LEAST #3 in a top 5 conference list for the last two decades and a year or two of this decade so I don't know what these people are going on about...and I don't even support the Big 12 and I can see that...sheesh...

Wrong. UCLA, Stanford and Washington are also great traditional programs that the Pac-10 has as well.

In football? I remember reading about this reasearch that dated back to when the Pac 8 was formed and basically the conference has a few bright spots but would be useless in football without USC. USC's won the most national awards, titles, Rose Bowls, and Pac 10 titles. And without USC the conference would be historically weak.

Nebraska's bubble finally burst

Note to Nebraska defense...when you grab an interception on your own 15 yard line and you're up by 4 with less than 2 minutes left GO DOWN WITH THE BALL, DON'T TRY TO SCORE A TD!

WE MUST BE THE DUMBEST FOOTBALL TEAM ON THE PLANET!

Poor Bill...he went from one dumb team to another one.

no doubt...but in least in college you have the built-in excuse that they were "excited kids who were on the verge of beating a highly ranked team when they were the underdogs who were just a little TOO excited"...

Nebraska fans, of course forever in denial of medicority, chalk it up to "well, they're making huge improvements and should be a powerhouse next season"...what's stupid is that if they can win the North and somehow beat Texas in the Big 12 Championship, they would get a big bowl bid...but see, Nebraska fans are fucking retarded so...

Well, he is the common denominator between the two teams...maybe it isn't ALL the players' fault.

Nebraska does suck, though.
