RVD's offensive arsenal

Recommended Posts

Guest LowSparkOfHighHeeledBoys

Is it just me, or does RVD not have any offensive moves that dont have him either spinning in the air, or using his feet? Other than the obvious punch or clothesline, and the obligatory random monkeyflip (such as on Christian recently) does he even use his upper body as anything but something that holds his arms so he can do his stupid thumb point thing?

Seems like people bitch at HHH for using his knees a lot more, and he at least uses his upper body more than RVD.

Absolutely.  RVD is not a good wrestler.  For some reason he is over.  He should not be main eventing, but he could be used in the midcard to pop the crowd.

I still maintain that he's getting better. I absolutely hated him when he first came in but now I've grown accustomed to him. He's learning.

He might be getting better...but seing as he was US champion for two freaking years in ECW, he shouldnt have to be learning how to wrestle now...he should have known already. What he's learning now is that you can't just have one way of going about things and expect to have a belt handed to you. I hope he either learns another way to add something to his arsenal, or gets off my TV and lets guys like Raven, etc get some TV time.

He wasnt the US Champ in ECW dumbass, he was the TV Champ.

There wasnt a US Title in ECW.

You think the WWF is gonna listen to you? When 90% of its fanbase love RVD?

The fact of the matter is, in ECDub, his entire style and all of his matches were built on high spots.  Which is how it can be when you're trying to break into the bigs.   If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance (technical skill), wow 'em with bullshit (high spots).  Now that he's in the Whiff, RVD can hone his craft a bit more, work on the more "technical" side of his game so his career can last a bit longer.  He's improving, but he does have a long way to go still.

who do you think is as exciting as RVD? I say noone in the wwf

Taijiri, Al Snow, Benoit, and plenty of guys can be as 'exciting' as RVD.  The trick is getting those guys 'over'.  If RVD was pushed down our throats any harder he'd start looking like Steph/HGH.

Do you know why RVD is so over in the WWF right now?  Because of his different style of offence which the fans really seems to take to.

Jerry Drake: excuse me for making a mistake...either way, he was a fucking champ for 2 years...he should be competent in being more than a judo guy in a wrestling ring.

90 percent of the fanbase loves RVD? BWAHAHAHAHAHA....I think not. Unless 90% of the WWF fanbase are ECW Mutants...which they are not, guaranteed.

As for who's more exciting than RVD in the ring...pretty much anyone other than Stone Cold, THe UNdertaker and The Rock...fuck, half of the mid to low card is more exciting than RVD, but they're not on TV, so nobody knows it. I'd rather watch guys like Chavo, Hurrican Helms, Jaime Knoble, etc work a compentent match than se RVD doing somersaults.

whats exciting about him, he hasn't been exciting since his feud with sabu in 96.  Acually you know whats good about him, he is good to watch in  person.  In person its nice to seen him fly and fuck up spots and all that great shit he does.  On tv its ugly and doesn't flow with me.  I'll take 10 minutes of espn news over an rvd match any day of the week.

I'd love to see RVD challenge Sabu in a 'best blown spot with least believable finisher' match.

Yes...RVD always fucks up spots...hmm...how many spots has he fucked up in the past 3 years? The only one I can REALLY think of, that's been purely his fault, has been when he broke his leg, and even that was a freak accident on a routine move.

I love RVD. His different style and his in-ring charisma is what draws 90% of the WWF's fanbase to him.

And just because you don't like him, don't think that others don't as well. There's a reason why his cheers have to be TONED DOWN, you know...

It's pretty much well-known that RVD is one of the most popular people in the WWF's recent history. It took him all of 2 weeks to get over, while it took most others a few months at the least.

Sure, it's easy to say only ECW fans like RVD. But it's just as easy to say you're in denial.

RVD is OVER.

And yes, while most of his offense is feet/aerial based...so? I'd rather see a barrage of flying maneuvers than a shitload of punches.

Huh? RVD was over with the fans the moment he & Tommy Dreamer ran into the ring, without any kind of push. A feud with Goldust isn't exactly what I'd call a "push", but that remains to be seen.

I agree that his moveset is getting really boring, though.

sure hes over.  I've been to the ecw arena many times and have seen him OVER.  I was at the last ecw ppv and he was more over than ever then.  Just because someone is over does not make them a good wrestler, thats not the arguement.  No he cannot wrestlel, and then to make it worse he is put into matches against opponents that are incapable of having a descent match.  When was the last time RVD had a good match?  You asked when was the last time he blew a spot, hmmm every time he busts someone open with his sloppy ass kicks I call a blown spot.  Remember invasion hahahahahahhahahahaha.  RVD blows, get off your knees, wipe your mouth and come to this reality.

"90 percent of the fanbase loves RVD? BWAHAHAHAHAHA....I think not. Unless 90% of the WWF fanbase are ECW Mutants...which they are not, guaranteed."

-Ahh, do you watch any WWF programming? RVD gets one of the loudest pops of the night. I wouldn't say 90%, but more like 80% of the audience likes him.

"As for who's more exciting than RVD in the ring...pretty much anyone other than Stone Cold, THe UNdertaker and The Rock...fuck, half of the mid to low card is more exciting than RVD, but they're not on TV, so nobody knows it. -First off, you can't compare RVD's style to Austin and the Rock. And the Undertaker? Your kidding right? Undertaker is one of the most UN-entertaining wrestler out there. He moves slow as fuck, and can't sell worth shit. On the other hand, RVD sells like woah, and is one of the best sellers in the WWF.(Next to Kanyon)

RVD has a completly different style then those two men. RVD uses flips, kicks, and high flying moves. Most people, including myself, find him very entertaining. And what is so bad about doing flips and sommersaults? Cruiserweights just add a little twist or flip to their moves to make them look better. That is what RVD does, he just adds a flip to a leg drop.

Plus, what he does is cool as shit. Who else does that? No one, he has is own orginal style of wrestling. And that is why he is over and entertaining.

summer olympics are coming around in 2004.  He can enter gymnastics for the bullshit he does in the ring.  Fuckin spot wrestlers suck.  WWf has like 20 cruisers that would bust him up on the mat because he couldn't wrestle for his life.  probably he'd be good on floor excersises and the balance beam though.

The problem is that flips, kicks and top turnbuckle moves are ALL HE DOES. Once you've seen every permutation of his "flip into a kick/senton" moves, it gets old really quick.  I'd like to see him mat wrestle a bit more.

Selling is not bumping.

I'll make the same case I do every time in a discussion like this, that RVD has improved but only because he's now emerged in the WWF style. Now rather than just stringing spots together with punches and kicks like almost all WWF wrestlers do, he just cut down on his moves and does the cool looking stuff with a bunch of punches and kicks.

RVD is better now that he is no longer doing all that hardcore stuff that he was doing in the summer.  He is watchable now, but he still isn't very good.

I'm sorry(wait no I'm not) but RVD is nowhere near as exciting or good as Austin. I don't know where you get that at.

RVD can sell and bump his ass off.  He has got to be one of the toughest guys in the WWF with all the abuse that his body can take yet he rarely gets hurt.  I don't understand how you can bitch about a wrestler who's matches are entertaining, who always gives 110%, and doesn't play politics in the back.  Try changing the channel.

I thought the guy who said RVD was cool fighting Sabu in 96 but sucks now is nuts.  RVD was not that good back in 1996, he had no muscular definiton and he didn't know how to fit in his spots in a hardcore match at all.

Rob Van Dam uses more moves in a routine match than anyone else in the WWF.  It seems like everyone just does punch/kick offense.

I will admit that RVD does throw a crappy punch.

I don't find him entertaining.  That is the problem.  I find good wrestling entertaining.  I feel the exact same way about the Hardys, especially Jeff.

Is RVD a great wrestler? Naw, but he is over, the fans cheer for him. So it would be stupid for the WWF not to push him.

I agree, but he shouldn't be pushed past the upper midcard.  When he has to wrestle long mat-based matches against Austin & Jericho, his weaknesses will begin to show and he will slowly lose much of his heat.  If he stays at the IC level he can be used to the best of his abilities.  At least until he improves more.

Umm and then there were none?

See once upon a time Vince had ten minute wrestling matches and three minute skits.  Then the McMahons fell in love with having themselves on the tube and the number of minutes flipped.  3 minutes is not much time to put on a match, but at least we get to hear the McMahons in ten minute increments.(yay!!!!...)
