Hunter's Torn Quad Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 The audio codec identified by the format tag 55 is required to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help. I got that when trying to play a video file, so I naturally searched for the needed codec to download. The problem is that every codec that is meant to fix this problem, such as MPEG Layer-3 Codec, doesn't actually fix the problem. I've tried every codec that came up that was said to be what I needed, but none of them work and I still have no sound on the file I am trying to play. I saw a suggestion that involved renaming a particular file, and the running and update to get a new version of said file, but that didn't work either. What else is there to try?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 I tried that. Said the video file contains audio data (Audio Data: Tag 80) that the player doesn't recognize.
Jobber of the Week Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Open it up in GSpot and see what it tells you under audio, because "audio codec 55" is bull. GSpot will tell you what kind of audio track it is and how many, if any, codecs that can play it are installed on your computer.
Insane Bump Machine Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 ^^what he said. but have you tried installing the newest AC3Filter? http://www.free-codecs.com/AC3_Filter_download.htm

Yes, and that didn't work either.
LucharesuFan619 Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Weird. AC3 fixed a problem I had with audio in a file the other day. Can't help ya
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted October 28, 2005 Author Report Posted October 28, 2005 Thanks. I still can't fix this issue, so I'm still looking for a way to make this file work. What else is there to try?
