Ever since reading Ebert's review of this I've wanted to see it. Schraeder is a great director and the cast(Richard Pryor, Harvey Keitel & Yaphet Kotto) is excellent. Plus seeing Pryor play the dramatic lead should be fun. Yet no video store has it, on Amazon it's only available for 65$+ Canadian, I don't get it.

Does anyone know why this movie is so rare and why it's so out of print?

Try Greencine (http://www.greencine.com/). I'm almost certain they have it, and if it's not, then chances are it's in moratorium, which is essentially like a book that's currently out of print.

EDIT: Actually I just checked Greencine, and that's exactly what it said. Also a chance that's it's not available on DVD yet.

Thanks for checking. But yah it is available on DVD cause they have it used at Amazon for insanely high prices.

Yes, well then most likely that means it's out of print, and if you actually attempt to buy that from anyone that's not a private dealer selling an old DVD of theirs, it's technically not allowed.

So, good luck in trying to find it in the future.

I've been finding and selling rare and OOP DVDs lately. If I happen to run across it, I'll let you know if you want. I will say that I've never actually seen it before, and I do look for it.

Small update. Amazingly I found it at a small video store. Finally watched it and god damn it was worth wait. One of the best movies of the 70's I'd say. Great performances, really powerful ending and just all aorund goodness. And it makes you wonder which you would rather be a snitch or a sell-out. Highest recommendation if anyone can find it.

I'm probably still buying it off Half.com though.

In the past month, I have finally bought this DVD two different times from two different pawn shops in the area. I haven't finished watching it yet, I'm about halfway through, but I've got to say that it's a really good film so far. It is making me wish that Pryor had done more dramatic roles in his film career.
