Bush vs. Critics

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I've seen Control Room, and I don't think Al-Jazeera wasn't the ones attacked.

The article says the meeting took place in April of 2004. When was Control Room filmed?

So not only do we have rehearsed conversations with soldiers, we now have stories being planted in Iraqi newspapers. Lovely.

Has anyone else been forced to say "we're better than this" while watching the news these days?

Anyone who has any honesty has. It's really an embarassing time to be American.

It's getting to the point where I want to scream seeing all of the dick-waving going on. A real President shouldn't mention in every speech how people disagree with him and that he's right while giving us all that goddamn know-it-all smirk, he should go ahead with his business as if no one said a peep. On the other side, I want Pelosi to die. Seriously. I don't have nearly as much hatred for Republicans as I do Democrats these days. Stop with all the fucking politics already and just SERVE THE PUBLIC like you're supposed to, you buncha goddamn wastes of carbon. Not a single fucking thing gets done anymore, it's disgusting. It would make my entire LIFE if every motherfucker up for re-election next year lost. Give us a Congress of liberals with balls and a crop of real conservatives and let's pretend the 21st century is starting over.

A lot of words here but no substance. Have you been watching FOX News? How are they not SERVING THE PUBLIC(~!)? By effectively shooting down Bush's plan to gut social security? Reid shutting down the Senate and making sure Iraq intel manipulation gets investigated? By making sure prevailing wages are paid in New Orleans reconstruction? By providing strong voices of dissent to Bush's failed policy in Iraq?

Your political views are decidedly emo, Kotz.

Strong voices of dissent? They sound like a bunch of whiners.

Phase 2 of the intelligence investigation will be forgotten over the holiday recess and will require another harsh action to get it moving again. That is, if everyone isn't too busy campaigning and attending fundraisers. I'd like to think the Democrats will start exhibiting more proaction rather than reaction in the coming election year in order to look like they have a position on something, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Except for the thwarting of the attempt to make Social Security a private enterprise, there's nothing major to which they can point and say "Look, we did this at least." Their complete ineptitude in failing to capitalize on the last several months and make some stuff really happen is frustrating. They had the GOP by the balls (especially in September/October) and were too busy complaining to provide a real alternative.

The average American citizen would be excused if they thought you had to start a sentence with "This administration has..." in order to be a Democratic lawmaker. After all, it's all you hear from them on the evening news. It's nothing but what the other side is doing wrong. We already know the ways in which the last five years have been a pretty big brainfart. Tell us what you can do differently instead of just repeating the same shit. My feeling is that they're saving the good stuff for when it'll count (in the political way) in the next year. I certainly hope so, because they don't have my vote as easily this time around without some real substantial changes. I can't be the only leftist who feels like this, and I'll blow my brains out before voting for another crop of neo-cons.

"Suck my balls!"

I have no idea if that will be the case, but Reid seems up to the task.

That was a pretty big deal. The centerpiece of Bush's second term domestic agenda.

there's nothing major to which they can point and say "Look, we did this at least."

They really can't do a whole lot being the minority party in Congress. They can only hold hearings, conduct investigations, etc. if the majority wants to. And the current Congress is considered one of the least respectful of the minority in history.

It's hard to avoid bringing up the mistakes & ineptitude of those in power. I think Dems in '06 & '08 are going to basically have to run on a "janitorial" platform.

I'm not even entirely convinced that the Social Security agenda wouldn't still be pushed today if it weren't for Katrina suddenly waking up everyone in the country who didn't already see the things going wrong.

John Murtha is the man, but is only one of many who could also say something that didn't come across as the same "guys in business suits hurling diplomatic insults at each other" claptrap. He actually had the sack to go out there and speak in blunt, frank terms that Americans can get behind. If only more followed his lead.

Minority party or not, they could at least get some ideas out there. What's the Democratic stance on stuff that isn't the war or a dumbass, trumped-up wedge issue like abortion or living wills? Shit, even if bill proposals on big issues were shot down, they'd at least get some press and make the Republicans look like the uncompromising ones who are against everything (which they are already, but as the ones in charge it isn't so clear).
