MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2005 For the past two days my computer has had a problem with it's audio. Everytime I try to play a song/video the sound is distorted and scratchy. I followed the steps in troubleshooter, but none of the options were/rectified the problem (It consisted of: Adjusting the volume settings, there was no hardware device conflict, and all my window XP drivers have been digitally signed by Microsoft). Can someone help? Thanks in advance.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2005 Are you playing them off of your hard drive or off of CD/DVD? It makes a big difference, because if it's off your HD, chances are you're low on memory or your sound card cables are loose/dying. If you're playing them on discs, it could be that Windows switched your drive into PIO mode. If that's the case, there's another set of instructions we have to give you that I don't feel like typing right now.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 25, 2005 The best thing to do is to just get more RAM. You may not even have that many programs running, but I have the same issue more or less. Also, check the Task Manager (bring it up using CTRL-ALT-DELETE) and check the application's priority in the system. Sometimes I found WMP in a "Below Normal" setting, and as soon as I changed it to High, sound problems are gone. And I use FoxyTunes mainly to play my music as well, so everything runs smoothly, but yeah if all that doesn't work for you, and especially if you have below 512mb of RAM, I'd just get more memory. Check pricegrabber.com for them, or just go straight to newegg.com
