Oh and I'll add that Hogan poses no threat to HHHs spot at all...whereas Jericho does.

Since everyone aroud here likes to play the "what if" game, I might as well join in....

What if Stephanie dumped Triple H? Or better yet, what if Triple H dumped Steph? Would he still have all of his backstage power? Would he still hold people down? Or would "princess crimpyhair fucking McMahon" step in and have him job to Jericho clean, based solely on her seething anger towards him?

I'll leave that for the conspirators to ponder over.

Question #1:

Why is it that when HHH makes a comment about Jericho not being good enough, it means he's holding Y2J and his career down, but when the Rock does it, its considered "elevating" him?

It's different because in both cases that Rock said he was better than Jericho it fit the storyline (Jericho can't win the "big" one/Jericho gets no respect as champ) and in both cases the comments were directly followed by a major PPV

match in which Rock was looking up at the lights for Jericho (No Mercy, Royal Rumble).

I don't think that's quite the same thing as badass heel Triple H saying underdog rising star face Chris Jericho is not in his league and saying their feud is over because Triple H beat him clean and Jericho's not worth his time.

Or Triple H going on a shoot wrestling program a few days before WrestleMania and saying Chris Jericho (his opponent in the WM main event) was not at his level and was still missing something to be a main eventer.

Do you really believe there was no difference in the portrayal of Jericho in his feud with Rock compared to his feud with Triple H? Or a difference in the way Rock reacted to Jericho compared to the way Triple H reacted to Jericho?

Thats an excellent question.

IMO...things would just be awkward...but business as usual until his contract came up....then it just wouldn't be renewed (see...Chyna)

I think the biggest difference in the feuds Jericho had with Rock and HHH is the fact that when Jericho feuded with the Rock he actually won a portion of the matches! All the years that he's fought HHH whether he was heel or face he's beaten him once. That was on tv earlier this year and it was after a ton of interference. I know Jericho was a heel and there is supposed to be interference then, but what about all the time HHH was a heel and he beat a face Jericho clean?

As opposed to beating the Rock "clean"?  Out of the 2 wins over Rocky that have been brought up (No Mercy, Rumble), one was with a chair and the other with feet on the ropes.  Jericho has never gone over Rock clean that I've seen.  I don't see how I am unjustified in saying this is comparable with HHH/Jericho.

Jericho holds 3 PPV victories over Rock. Rock holds 0 PPV victories over Jericho.

Triple H holds 3 PPV victories over Jericho. Jericho holds 0 PPV victories over Triple H.

Even if none of the matches were completely "clean," Rock still put Jericho over each time. And in the end, regardless of interference during the match, it was Jericho beating the Rock. The heat was on JERICHO. The heat was not on Undertaker for cheating Triple H out of the win. The heat was not on Stephanie McMahon for stealing Triple H's ugly dog.

But more importantly than the matches itself were the buildup to the matches. A couple hundred thousand people see the PPV matches. A few million people watch the tv show each week. The Rock/Jericho feud was built up as two equals both wanting to prove they were the best. Jericho was able to get in Rock's face and under Rock's skin. Rock treated Jericho like a legitimate threat and only used the "I'm better than you" comments to get under Jericho's skin and play with his confidence.

Triple H on the other hand has never treated Jericho like an equal during their feuds. Anytime Jericho would start cutting a promo on him, Triple H would just smirk at him and kill any heat Jericho might have gotten. Jericho would get blown off so Triple H could focus on Stephanie or Vince. And at what point in the buildup to Mania, was it ever portrayed as two great warriors battling for the WWF title?

Do I really need to bring up the Stephanie McMahon lotion angle? Or the television shows revolving around HHH/Stephanie with Jericho playing the bumbling fool?

And what buildup was there to this HITC match? Triple H cut promos on Vince and Edge leading up to the PPV. Jericho was portrayed as Vince's surrogate/lackey, not a legitimate threat. There was never any doubt as to who was going over.

Bottom line. Rock did everything he could to build Jericho up to his level. Triple H did everything he could to push Jericho right back down.
