Failed Bridge

2006 NFL Off-Season

Recommended Posts

Please someone splain to me how Nate Burleson is worth a $49 million dollar offer sheet, plus a 3rd round pick since Minnesota is not going to match. Granted only 5.25 mil is guaranteed, but no matter how it is arranged, a 49 million dollar deal is still big money. All for a guy who has cracked (barely) 1000 yards once. Christ, maybe GB will get a ransom for Walker.

Following the Vikings for my job, I was stunned to see the Seahawks pay that much for Burleson. Must be Seahawks getting back at the Vikes for taking Hutchinson.

Good god, I certainly hope so.

Two first round picks or maybe a first and a decent guard?

Brian fuckin' Griese? Ah crap. Oh well, Considering the Bears are almost always plagued by injuries, it makes sense to sign someone with experience. He'd better be the third string guy, though.

I have nothing against Burleson as a player, but yeah that's insane money for him at this point of his career.

The "poison pills" in the Burleson contract are hilarious. Check this shit out.

All $49 million would become guaranteed if Burleson plays five or more games in the state of Minnesota in any season of the contract. The Vikings, of course, play home games in Minneapolis, at the Metrodome.

The second provision would guarantee the full contract if Burleson is paid more on average per year than all of the Minnesota running backs combined. At least for now, the averages of the Vikings' tailbacks fall well shy of the $7 million average of the Burleson offer sheet.

I'm really hope someone signs another Vikings restricted FA that guarantees the contract if the player's home jersey contains more than 50% purple.

I'd love to see the NFL send them on a barnstorming tour of Minnesota for their preseason schedule.

They'd just sit him out. Hey, the contract only says Burleson has to play more than 5 games in Minnesota, not the rest of the team.

PS Texans sign Sam Cowart to a one year, $1.5 million dollar deal. Looks like he could be a filler until someone steps up or we draft a MLB (I'd think about D'Qwell Jackson at the top of the 2nd if available).

I find it funny how LaVar Arrington was a judge on dream job 2 years ago and all he's been doing is complaining since then.

Najeh Davenport, the often-injured Green Bay Packers running back, has agreed to a one-year contract to stay in Green Bay.

I thought for sure Davenport was going to be gone from the Packers. Not sure what the Packers are doing as they look like they will be horrible next year.

Green, Gado, and the Pooper in a RB rotation - I don't know it could be worse - a few months ago it seemed Gado would be the ONLY one back

I think overall the Packers will be worse. I think Ahman's career is nearly over, Davenport is injury prone and Gado fumbles to much. Favre if he plays will put up similar numbers to last season.

If Favre is not coming back, then it falls upon Rogers to lead the team and I don't think he is up to the task yet.

Seahawks signing Burleson for that much is stupid, stupid, stupid.

And I like Burleson.

However, this is clearly just to hurt the Vikings, which it probably does a lot more than it helps the Seahawks. Between D-Jax, Engram and Stevans, the Seahawks already have a more than solid receiving corp. Spending that kind of money for a small upgrade at second receiver is retarded.

And I HATE these so-called 'poison pills'. I didn't like it with Hutchinson, and I don't like it with Burleson. I hope it doesn't become common practice.

The only way I see Favre returning is if the Packers SIGN at least 1 free agent receiver or at least re-sign Walker. They haven't signed ANY key free-agents on the offense so if I was Favre, I wouldn't even bother come back and watch the Packers play another 12+ loss season.

Who do the Packers draft this year anyway? Since their in the top 5 and all.

What a surprise

The opening game for the NFL will be Pittsburgh(home) against Miami, on Thursday night airing on NBC

Manning Bowl I will occur on NBC's first Sunday Night Game (in NY).

Minnesota/Washington and San Diego/Oakland are the doubleheader opener for MNF (ESPN)

They have added a third game to the Thanksgiving tradition...

Dallas will host Tampa, Miami plays in Detroit and The Broncos/Chiefs (NFL Network), It's not that unusual for KC to host a Thanksgiving game, as they used to during the AFL days. It's also the first live game on NFLN.
