need MPEG-2 audio decoder

My Tivo is connected to my Network, and I recently set it up so I can transfer recordings from the Tivo unit to the computer.

It's working fine, and I haven't had a problem with the transfers. My only problem is that the files, with the extension of .tivo, won't play on WMP. I click on the web help button, and it tells me the following...

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the MPEG-2 audio decoder codec is not installed on your computer.

The Windows links didn't help me find a free download. Can anyone point me in the direction of a free download?

Did you set the tivo to not encrypt the recordings? I know I had to do that before I could take recordings off my tivo and put them on DVD, watch them, etc.

If you have done that then you may need to run them through something like tytools and turn them into mpg files, this is a really fast process, about as fast as copying the file from one location to another.

There are probably ways to watch or listen to the files directly but I never needed to know that, sorry.

Look around on the deal database forums for more info.

Could you tell me more about setting the tivo to not encrypt the recordings, because I'm not sure. If it makes a difference, I'm doing it the legit way with TiVoToGo.

Yeah, I've found several programs now. Sounds like eTivo may be the easiest to use
