The rowboat tilts to and fro, giving Thoth a slanted view of the landless ocean.  The ferryman, the same one from before, is pulling a stick of oak through the solid water, disturbing its perfect frame.

“Doushite, mouichido kaerun? (Why have you returned?)” he asks.

“Sonna... sonna wa taisetsu ja nai.  (That’s... not important.)”

Those are the only words spoken during the entire sojourn.  Thoth gets out of the boat and walks up a set of stone stairs, leaving the dock behind him.

The last time Thoth was in Aechiba, he had been on a losing streak.  Now, having lost seven matches in a row, he is returning, perahps to find inspiration; a tool, or a piece of knowledge.  His hopes are pinned on finding something, anything.

The streets of his hometown are unusually empty, but he walks towards the foot of a rocky bluff.  He trods up the winding stairs that wrap around the perimeter of the cliff, to the top - a graveyard.  His father’s resting place.  Though, medically, he died of illness, the day his spirit, his love for life, died in a fight.

”Kaesame... anta no jikan da!  (Your time has come, Kaesame.)”  The man who spoke the line was young, but full of hate and evil.  Yuuichiro could feel it as his father stood to face the unnamed challenger.

“...t’ch!  Koroshite mo ii? (Pfft!  Is it okay if I kill you?)”  He holds his fists out towards his opponent.  The mystery man lunges in with a punch, but the elder Kaesame sidesteps and locks the arm.  The challenger drops to his stomach, taking Kaesame with him, and hits him in the chest.  The challenger gets up.  Yuuichiro’s father does not.  He glares at the young, future Thoth, and says to him, looking him in the eye:

“Itsuka, anta no otosan mo tsuyokunaru.  (Someday, you will be as strong of a fighter as your father.)”  And then he left.  Yuuichiro tended to his father, who was still breathing, while watching the man walk away, slowly, out of sight.  The insigna of the back of his jacket... he would never forget...

Thoth kneels at the foot of his father’s grave.

“You... deluded... fool.”
