Dimensions 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Hey guys, need a lil help. I'm a bit lost. My IE doesn't work. I do use Firefox, I love it but you know there are those pages that just don't look right with firefox. I have the extension to open an IE tab in Firefox but that tab didn't work. I tried opening IE directly and it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? I changed all IE settings to default. None of the pages I try to go to I can't get to them but Firefox loads them just fine and so does Opera although it's a bit laggy. Thanks!
Dimensions 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Alright by further playing with it, I've learned that I can't get to Google, Yahoo, and Digg and tons of others but certain sites like MSN.com and WWE.com work. TSM doesn't work in IE either.

Carnival 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Leena....help this man. Sorry, the only thing I could think of could be your firewalls or anti-virus. Those can be browser specific. Or you can try to type the following commands in the command prompt. netsh i i r r netsh w r The first one resets your TCP/IP, small chance that could be a problem. The second one resets your winsocks, these are more problematic in XP, hence XP is the only OS you can reset them with a command. But this can be slightly risky. Some programs may not be able to access the internet afterwards. Each prog you have lays claim to a chunk of a winsock to access the internet, if you reset that, some progs may not automatically reclaim their spot on the winsocks, and thus wouldn't be able to access the internet. But most progs will do this automatic. Just a warning, I would do the w r command if most everything else fails. You should be fine even if you do it, but i'd try other methods first. like whatever leena suggests.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Probably won't apply here, but try it anyway... Start > Search... > Files and Folders > All Files and Folders > Type in HOSTS > If you see a HOSTS file (NOT hosts.msn), open it > Select program from a list > Choose Notepad. If a lot of sites are shown there, delete them, and you likely have bad stuff on your computer. Run all the spyware, virus, trojan, etc... stuff. Otherwise, I don't know. This shit is why I stopped using IE many years ago.

Dimensions 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2006 I wish it was that simple. Since I work help desk I had a bunch of different suggestions from co-workers including some that were listed here by you two but none of them work. So I did what every techie in need does and Googled to the best of my abilities. After about an hour of searching I found my exact problem... MS search companion not working and IE not working. It said run these commands: regsvr32 urlmon.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 wshom.ocx After doing that, both the search companion and IE worked like a charm. Just needed a little detailed attention. Thanks again for all your advice over here. And I hope you guys keep this in mind if you ever come across this again.
